It's called the human potential
movement and it started in the 1960s
with a little Eastern mysticism
mixed with some Western occult.

It gained force in the “Is that all
there is?” days of the 1980s and now
followers strive to be divine. Not just
to worship a divine power, but to
become as ine or evolved as one

Rev. Bruce McLeod, former
United Church moderator, says New
Age spirituality is a reaction to
traditional religion.

lacking in mystery and awe, too full

Avatar is probably the newest of
the New Age movements. It was
“discovered” 18 months ago by an
American and brought to Canada by
its 100th graduate, Steve Owen.

Avatar is a technique, not a phil-
osophy, Owen insists. And at $2,000
US, it's expensive.

manent course. The results don't go
