Rainfall was above normal while sunshine and temperatures were below normal last month, according to the monthly weather summary from the Castlegar weather office. “The cool, wet weather of May was ined, to a lesser extent, into ” the summary states. ‘‘Upper disturbances off the coast set up @ southwesterly flow of moist, unstable air, which in turn provided plenty of showers and thundershowers. Weak ridges of high pressure provided brief periods of sunny, warm weather, especially towards the end of the month."" The hottest day of last month was June 25 with a high temperature of 31 C. The record high for June is 35.7 C set on June 30, 1987. The coolest day was June 5 when the mercury dipped to 3.3 C. The record is 2.2 C set on two occasions, the last of which was June 4, 1976. There were just two days last month when the temperature climbed to 30 C or above. Summer's taking its time arriving in Castlegar The mean temperature — the average of the highs and lows for the month — was 15.4 C. Normal for June is 16.7 C while the record high mean is 19.1 C set in June 1970 and the record low mean is 14 C set in June 1981. The weather office recorded 85.4 mm of rain in June, well above the normal 64 mm but well short of the record 115.4 mm which fell in June 1981. The driest June on record is June 1974 when just 12.7 mm of rain fell. The weather office said 85 per cent of June’s rain fell during the first 10 days of the month. “The remainder of the month was relatively dry, but small amounts of rain were observed more days than, not.”” The weather office recorded 213.4 hours of sunshine last month. That amount is close to the normal 239.5 hours of sunshine for June but several days short of the record 309.8 hours recorded in June 1987. The dullest June on record is June 1981 when the weather office recorded just 174.8 hours of sunshine. Portz also = pleaded guilty to theft and mischief and received one-month jail terms on each count to be served concurrently to the first sentence. He pleaded guilty to a second count of driving under the influence and a second count of mischief and received three- month sentences for each count, to be served concurrently to the first sen- tence of six months. Portz was also placed on probation for six months on the second mischief charge. . 8 6 Edward Richard Czechowski pleaded guilty to assault and was given a suspended sentence and placed on probation for six months. . James Edward Milne was fined $200 for causing a disturbance or, in default, sentenced to 10 days in jail. He was also fined $500 for re-entering a licenced establishment within 24 hours of being asked to leave. ._ * 68 Donald Peitzscht pleaded guilty to assault and was given a conditional discharge and placed on probation for 30 days.
