Five delegates read reports KSA offering informative intro to textiles program The textiles program at Kootenay School of the Arts has been postponed. Scheduled to begin on Oct. 13, instructor Judith MacKenzie was unable to get away from teaching duties in the northwest- ern U.S. Her students there wanted her to teach them more. MacKenzie obliged and, as a result, her courses in Nelson will begin on Oct. 27. This is bad news for those already enrolled and champing at the bit to get started, but it offers one last opportunity for oth- ers to enroll in either Introduction to Textiles or Comprehensive Spinning. In Introduction to Textiles students will achieve an entry-lev- el skill in basic techniques in the following areas: spinning, dye- ing, weaving, feltmaking, papermaking and basketry. Comprehensive Spinning is for people with some existing spinning skills who wish to widen their knowledge of the field and improve their physical expertise. Students must have a working relationship with their wheel. They should expect to spend six hours a week in the studio in addition to class time. Students who took MacKenzie’s courses last winter raved about the quality of instruction. She shares her knowledge and the use of studio generously. Before moving to Nelson, she taught textiles at Maslaspina College in Nanaimo and ran a production studio in Victoria. She is now a full-time textile designer, producer and teacher. If you are interested in this wonderful opportunity to learn more about textiles, visit KSA on the third floor of Nelson City Hall or phone 352-8258.
