-A. \W. 'Fraser, who is Public
-Library Commission Director for
the Prince George consolidated
library district, met with the
Castlegar Public Library Board
at the library Monday evening.
The first part of the meeting in-
valved general library business
at which the problem of over-
due books was discussed, out-
standing bills on books ordered
paid, and-a new volume “Early
Days in Nakusp and the Arrow
Lakes” by Mrs. K. Johnston of
Nakusp. This is a factual ac-
count <of the West .Kootenays
and was chosen since it also in-
cludes a_ history of Castlegar,
and shauld be of considerable
Jocal interest. A rental notice
from the’Parks Board was ord-
ered tabled until funds are avail-
able.

The meeting was then turned
over to Mr. Fraser, who opened
his remarks by saying “Castle-
gar is to .be congratulated .on
the library service it is provid-
ing for its readers,” and went
On to state that the library here
compares very fovorably with
other libraries in areas of equal
size. He further congratulated
the Library Board on the busi-
ness like fashion in which they
are conducting the library.

friends.

KINNAIRD NEWS

Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Ruane have
left for a three months stay at
Tacoma, Wash., where Mrs.
Ruane will receive medical treat-
ment.

Miss Pearl Crebbin who has
been a resident of Kinnaird for
the past year has left for Slocan
Park, where she will make her
home.

Mr. Arlan Henderson who was
critically wounded about a month
ago when his gun accidently dis-
charged, has been transferred
from the Trail-Tadanac hospital
to the Shaughnessy. hospital
where he will be given special-
ized treatment. He was accom-
panied by his mother and father.
Many of his young friends were
gathered at the Castlegar depot
to bid him farewell. We all wish
you the best of luck, Arlan.

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McLeod
have as their guest- Mrs. Mc-
Leod’s brother, Mr. Ken Jensen
of Nelson.

Mr. G. Askew of Medicine Hat
has been visiting at the home of
his cousins, Mr. and Mrs. O.
N. Askew and Mr. and Mrs. J.
D. Askew.

. Mrs. Eve Hall was a Sunday
guest at the home of Mr. and
and Mrs. O. N. Askew.

The W. I. held a very suc-
cessful military whist party at
the Kinnaird Community hall on
Saturday evening, May 3, in aid
of the children’s playground. Mrs.
R. Hardie, dressed as a Colonial
Jady was in charge of the hand-
kerchief sale. Candy and pop-
corn were another popular at-
traction. Cards. were followed
by a buffet lunch. Mrs. Sycora
was convener of the evening and
Mr. Jim Wisted acted as M.C.
The door prize was won by Mrs.
G. Buie.

Mrs. A. McLeod of Saskatoon,
Sask., is a guest of her daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E
Fitzpatrick.

Holits ‘Final Meeting
For Summer ‘Months

cerely thanked all for the splen-
did response that they all.showed
in promoting civil defence -or-
ganization .in Kinnaird. _He also
Bave a short talk and explana-
tion on the warning sirens and
setup.

Mr. D. Davies, transportation
officer for .the Kinnaird area,
gave a detailed report on .the
transportation problem here. He
also showed how dividing Kin-
naird into three zones would meet
any emergency difficulties.

Crescent Valley

Timer Dies

Jacob Kosiancic, 82, pioneer
resident of Crescent Valley, died
at Mount St. Francis. Mr. Ko-
siancic was born in Triests, Au-
stria, and went to Rossland from
Pittsburgh, Penn., in 1902.

Two years later in 1904 he
homesteaded in Creston Valley
where he engaged in farming
and lumbering.

He is survived by his wife;
two sons, Valentine and Jack;
a brother, Joseph of Creston,
and 11 grandchildren.

Arlen Henderson, victim of a
shooting accident in Kinnaird
some weeks ago, left by train-
on Friday for Vancouver where
he will receive further treatment
at the Shaughnessy Hospital. He -
was accompanied by his parents,,

No. Suppose a voter marks only one choice: that voter has virtually
