We as coaches are frustrated. We are not getting the response from the players we need,” said Rebels Co-coach Gary Sauer, Starting on Tuesday, Castlegar played in Grand Forks and lost their first game of the week, 6-3. Castlegar had first period goals from Jesse Oldham and Corey Flodell. Still they found them- selves heading into the dressing room trailing 3-2. An early goal in the second period by Todd Doyle tied the game up. The Border Bru- ins netted two later in the period to pull away from the Rebels. Grand Forks netted one more to finish off the scoring and put things out of reach for the Rebels. “We had some early. power-play chances that we could not capital- ize on. If we could have scored early in the third, things would have been different,” Sauer said. Heading out on their second East Kootenay road trip of the sea- son, the Rebels were looking for- ward to three games against two of the weaker teams in the league. Friday, in Columbia Valley, the Rebels skated. to a 7-4 loss at the hands of the Rockies. Columbia Val- ley opened up the scoring at the 9:48 mark of the first period. Jerry Holz netted one for the Rebels to make it an even game, less than two minutes later, only to have the Rockies jump ahead with less than two minutes remaining in the period. * Castlegar was helped out with two second period goals from Steve Gropp, in his first game back after a stay with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the Rocky Moun- tain Junior A Hockey League. Oldham.and Gropp combined efforts to score Castlegar’s fourth goal and final goal of the game before the end of the second frame. Columbia Valley matched Castlegar, scoring three goals of their own in the second, to hold onto aone goaltead going into the third. Losing to Golden was the fifth straight loss for the Rebels. Sun- day’s last game of the weekend road trip had the Rebels trying to break out of the losing slump they had been victim to. > The Rebels pulled out all the stops, winning the last game of the Eastern road trip 7-3. Derek Lalonde opened up the scoring for the Rebels. The two teams exchanged goals later in the period. Castlegar was able to hold onto their lead for the remainder of the period. Midway into the Second, Golden tied the gaine up, but wasting no time, the Rebels regained the lead 14 sec- onds later to retrieve-their one goal advantage.
