Next Tuesday for the second time in a year, the citizens of Bri- tish Columbia are going to the polls to elect their government represetnatives, They did the same last year on June 12. We did not advise our readers how to vote then and, although we ourselves have strong convictions on the matter, we will not presume to advise them how to vote this time either. It is up to each person to evaluate for him- self the claims and counter-claims the various parties are wooing him with. ; But we do wish to advise, nay strongly urge that every one of our readers, who are eligible to do so, exercise their right to vote. We urge too that every voter use his voting rights to the full, that is, mark all his preferences among the candidates offering themselves for his service. There is nothing contradictory about voting for more than one]. candidate or party in order of preference, By, doing so the voter is nerely saying, “If my cherished beliefs or personal respect for one party or person cannot be realized, I am interested enough in public affairs to know that all is not black or white. There are other candi- dates, other parties, and among them ae are gradations of ability and honesty. I am entitled to all of the candidates. That is the only way fee the will of the majority can prevail in a vote where four or five parties are in the contest.” The outst ding merits of alternative voting were pointed out as early as “1910 by a British Royal Commission on Systems of Elect- ion, After study#jg many types of voting, the commission favored the Al Vote system “the A Vote as the best method of removing the most serious defects which a single member system can possess — the return of minority candi- STRANGE FOLES The rookie’, ball player who: struck out on his own, The angry father who tied his daughter’s beau in a knot because ne got in his hair.
