One hundred guests, friends and family members, attended the reception, hosted | by the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs, H. H. Killough of astlegar, : The hall was tastefully decorated with pastel stream- ers and white bells. A’ lace- covered table displayed the three-tier wedding cake, which was surrounded by green tulle, and flanked by white candles, The cake was made by the groom's mother and decorated by Mrs. Greg Sahlistrom, cousin of the groom, Also displayed were the guest book and album of wedding pictures, in an area centered by a beautiful yellow chrysanthemum plant. Music for dancing was supplied by various family members, : Ashort program of musical numbers was presented, con- «cluding with a blessing ex- pressed in song, Following the cutting of the wedding cake, delicious re- freshments were served, and the cake was served by the bride and groom. The happy couple received many lovely gifts, The evening closed with congratulations and best wishes to the newlyweds. They are presently re- siding in Vancouver, wheve both are attending UBC. . Guests attended from Pen- ticton, Trail, South Slocan and Robson. By Pastor Donald W. Reed I didn't write “7 it (only the post- week. The item, 1S: “I'm sorry you made Sun- day when you did, dear God. - You see, it is like this—we could attend church more regularly if your day came at some other time. “You have chosen a day that comes at the end of a hard week, and we are all tired out. Not only that but it is the day following Saturday night. Sat- urday evening, you know, is one time we feel we should enjoy ourselves so we go to the Pioneer Church movies or a party and often it is after midnight when we reach home. “It is almost impossible to get upon Sunday morning. You have chosen the very day we want tosleep late, and it makes it mighty hard to get the children off to Sunday School, especially when they have it so early, Then there are dishes to wash and we always have some things we have to wash out. “I mean no disrespect, dear God, but you must realize that you have picked out the day on which we have our biggest dinner, Not only that, but the church has fixed the hour of worship at the very time we must be preparing the dinner. “Then, too, you must ‘think ” 3 Literally Built by Butter . The old, stene church which overlooks Cowichan Bay, near Duncan, British Columbia, was literally built by butter. It was erected in 1870 by missionary Father Rondeault, who was also a mason, car- penter, farmer, and dairyman. Butter from his two cows was sold to buy the skilled labor, the mortar and the other necessities for construction. It was in use for a decade thereafter, and then, for various reasons, reluctantly abandoned. A new chapel, more centrally located and on church . property, was built, The belfry toppled and the hard winter rains all but destroyed the roof. Father Rondeault died. Pioneer days became modern times. Then in 1958, as a Cen- tennial project, the Cowichan Indian Band restored the little sanctuary. Thanks to their co- operation, it may be visited today. The church is surprisingly large for a pioneer structure. The thick stone walls stand firm, their buttresses frescoed with lichen, and the arching windows offer serene views of sky, green-clad hills and blue sea. of Tom. He is cooped up in his office all week and Sunday morning is the only time he has to tinker with the car and to catch up on all the odd jobs. When he gets into his old clothes and his hands are dirty, ‘you couldn't expect him, dear God, to be able to get off to church, “I am telling you these things, dear God, because I want you to get our viewpoint. . Itreally is not our fault that we are not able to go to church on Sunday mornings, We would like to go and we know we should go, and need to go, but it must be clear to you that the real reason we cannot go is =: because-you have chosen the “wrong-day.’ = “If you will select another day, dear God, we shall be glad to go to church dnd Sunday School and be more faithful.” es 8 8 P.S. Anyone want to start a petition? I think the truth of the matter is that religion is not really a matter of convenience. As I see it it's rather a matter of commitment. I guess it all depends on how we set our priorities ‘and where we fix our values. We can hardly expect God to make time for us when we'die if we can’t be bothered to make time for Him while we live. It just might turn out to be a better eternity, as well as a better weekend, if we all found time for God this Sunday. It’s worth a try!
