Most impressive was the effort and deter- mination shown by the first- year Aquanauts, several of whom completed the mile._ Theresa Eglinton, Kat- rina Babaeff, Leanne Bent- ley, Chris Kinakin, Andrea Furness, Sherry Bouthillier, Shannon Dunaway (a first- year Aquanaut with previous competitive swimming ex- perience), Shelley Roberts, Jackie Luker, Lisa Singh, Lana Bergeron, Tami Hurd and Vicky Armstrong were first year girls who com- pleted the mile. Dwayne Samoyloff, Tom Gustonsson, and Bjorn Gus- tausson (who had the fastest time for new swimmers) were the first-year boys who finished. Big improvements over last year were shown by Alex and Kari Hartman, Stacey Polonicoff and Dave Zurek, The fastest time for the day was turned in by Jason Leitch, who finished the mile in a very fast 22 minutes, 38 seconds. The relay competition was quite exciting and the Dunkers trophy was won this year by the Medical Clinic team, who’ defeated last year’s champs, the local RCMP, The Medical Clinic team booked so good that hope- fully they will swim for the Aquanauts in the 17-and- way-over age group at our first meet in Nelson. The Aquanauts thank CKQR Radio, the Lions Club, Legion, Rotary and Kiwanis for also participating. Parent partici- pation is one of the main reasons for the success of the club and it is appreciated. Mr. Alvarez, swimathon chairman, and Mr. Schuep- fer, equipment manager, worked hard to ensure suc- cess, and they deserve spec- ial mention. | Ifanyone is interested in attending the officials clinic to be held this Saturday, Please give the team presi- dent, Mrs. Berger, a call.
