Dear Ann: Recently 1 became engaged. Since I come from a Catholic family, the wedding will be in church. Before getting married, every engaged couple is asked to come in fora “visit”, At this "visit" you discuss marriage wilh the priest, a doctor, and a married couple. Well, a friend of mine just attended such a meeting and when she told me the questions they * asked I was shocked. Do they have a right to ask, “Do you fight?” "What are your arguments about?" “What do you plan to do about the dividing of money after you are married?" “What method of birth control will you use?" "How often do you plan to have sex?" Aren't these questions highly personal? I don't think it is any of the priest's business. Am I right or ean the church poke around in your personal life like this? I need to know because my fiance and I both want o church wedding, but we don't want to go through the third degree, ° Please print this in your column. We are patiently awaiting your . tesponse, —Raised Eyebrows Dear Raised: If more couples were compelled to think about the answers to those questions before marriage, it might help curb the divorce rate, which, incidentally, is going through the roof, Too many young people rush into marriage with no thought of the problems they will be dealing with day after day—and night after night. For God's sake, tell somebody. Get it out of your system. Don't keep it locked up inside you. It can be a time bomb, I know. It happened to me. When I was 11 years old, my stepfather raped me. I was afraid to tell on him so I just kept quiet and made sure we were never alone together, When I reached the boy-girl dating age—in those days it was 16—I was terrified to let a boy hold my hand. J was so tense and frightened of any contact with a male it was agony to even sit next to a boy ina movie. I also had terrible guilt feelings, as if 1 was responsible for what had happened to me when 1 was 11 years old. ‘ ‘The day after high school graduation I had a complete nervous breakdown. A wonderful doctor brought me back to the real world and I will never be able to thank him enough. It was he who taught me the importance of talking about the secret nightmare that I had kept buried in my mind for so many years. So, Ann, please print my letter and encourage other girls {especially young children) to tell somebody if they have the horrible experience—mother, sister, teacher, doctor, aunt. It can mean the difference between mental health and insanity. —Been There Dear Friend: Your letter says it all. Thank you for sitting in my chair today. You had a lot to say and you said it beller than I Could. os 8 8 Dear Ann: You told “Everybody's Mom” it would be cruel to turn away the teenage neighbor boys who had been kicked out by their parents. I know you meant well, Ann, but L hope she checks the boys’ stories. I speak from experience. Our son has run away cight times. I'm sure he wouldn't have been so quick to take off if our many well-meaning neighbors had not given him food and shelter, ; —Walked In Those Moccasins You have a point. The question, “May I phone your would clarify the situation. ‘Thanks for the input. Dear M a er Dear Ann: I have this laundress who has worked for me for five years. She is the dumbest woman I have ever met. Yesterday, a guest accidentally spilled some nail polish on my good tablecloth. | "The laundress asked me how to get it out. Jokingly I said, “Try scissors.” : Well, the idiot actually took the scissors and cut out the spot. Shall I make her pay for the cloth? The series, ‘Another Day.’ was originally scheduled to replace ‘The Betty White Show’ on Monday but has .been postponed ‘indefinitely. According to co-star David Groh, who's known to many . viewers as the ex-husband of ‘Rhoda,’ ‘CBS has been frightened from the start because this show has quality - but they ought to understand we are their last ace in the hole. Our audiences sometimes stand up and cheer during, taping and when we ask why, someone always says, That's me up there, that's my family.’ The show is about a young married couple with two children. That sounds rather straight and norrnal but perhaps that's what audiences want. Perhaps it could be a ‘romantic reaction to shows such as ABC's ‘Soap.’ At any rate. Groh's wife is played by Joan Hackett, an actress who's received far more raves from her fellow thespians than the general audience, which has seen her in such ‘down films as ‘The Last of Sheila.’ Yet, since her peers think highly of her and since Groh is pretty well known, it sounds like a show that should make more than a few waves for the audience. Unfortunately, there's a lot of rumors going round about rampant hostility between the two—hostility that, some say, has escalated into violence. For example, Groh is supposed to have bashed Hackett with a 10-foot rehearsal table covered with food and drink and cussed her out in the bargain. Groh denies all this and says, ‘| have never even had words with - Joan. | think she's one of the best actresses in’ the country, as funny as Chaplin. I'm just in awe of her. She's such an unusual woman, as sensitive as a - precision instrument, Acting with her is like playing tennis with Pancho Gonzales." And what does Miss Hackett say to such compliments?
