Lybbert, Ora’s brother, recalled a story illustrating Omer's compas- sion, Bob Lightle gave a brief history of Omer and Ora's courtship and marriage. He recounted that Omer came west from Port Hope, Ont. to (Raymond Alberta, on a har- vesters excursion in the fall of 1931 and decided to stay. There, he met Ora Lybbert in. the fall of 1933. She was living at home and doing dotes of family life in the Lightle household and read one of Ora’s favorite poems, “Those Cluttered Years.” Joan Martini read a few of the remembrances submitted by guests that were compiled in a book presented to Omer and Ora. Letters and telegrams of congratulations were received from Gov. Gen. Jeanne Sauve, Prime Minis- ter Brian Mulroney, Liberal leader John Turner, Premier Bill Bennett, local Kootenay West MP Robert Brisco, some They courted for two years and on Sept. 24, 1935 ere ‘Trail-MLA~— Chris D'Arcy and Mayor Audrey Moore. married in L Byt his time Omer was doing carpentry work in Reymond. Their daughter, Joan, was born there and in June of 1937 the family moved to Rossland where Omer worked on the Crown Point Hotel and. later at Cominco. In 1938 Omer bought prop- erty on 5th’ Avenue in Castlegar where he built a small home and moved the family. Sons Robert and Ronald and daughters Ber- nice and Barbara were born there. A two-tiered wedding cake was cut by the couple and pieces passed to the guests. A highlight of the evening was two songs, “When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver,”. and “Can I Have This Dance,” performed by Ora’s brother-in-law Sheldon Law and his daughter Connie Schmidt. Flower arrangements for the head table and centre- pieces were made and sup- plied by Josephine Fornelli, a long-time family friend. A dance and more visiting followed supper. The bride wore a floor- length white satin gown with a V-neck framed with a heavy lace trim. The gown was adorned with .an organza overlay complemented by long organza sleeves. Her headdress was a white and lilac silk flower wreath with gold and’ white beads and three-quarter length veil.
