Award recognizes
years of service

Librarian Kay Mealing is the 1989
winner of the Castlegar Public Ser-
vices Award. The award is presented
each year by the Castlegar Rotary
Club to recognize employees whose
efforts to serve the public bring credit
to their and the

McDowell who described her as un-
failingly courteous, pleasant and
helpful. Runners-up were Mabel
Bonderoff of Central Foods and Dan
Popoff of Safeway.

Previous winners of the award are
Scotty Tait of Scotty’s Marina, Linda

community in which they work.

The names of suitable candidates
are submitted to a committee. short-
listed and then voted on is secret
ballot by the club. Mealing, who has
worked in the Castlegar Public
Library for years, was chosen for her
outstanding example of good service,
courtesy and warmth in the pursuit of
her duties as a librarian.

She and her husband Mark Mealing
were guests at a recent Rotary dinner
at which she was presented with the
service award by vice president Don

of Safeway and Marcia
Palmer of Mitchell Supply.

During Sunfest, Lt.-Gov. David
Lam and Mrs. Lam were presented
with a carved wooden ‘bowl from
Castlegar and District Heritage
Society by treasurer Verna Keraiff at
the Chapel House on’ Zuckerberg
Island.

The Lams were escorted by their
aide-de-camp Lach Farrell, heritage
society president Sherrel Koreen and
guide John Charters and welcomed at
the Chapel House by island super-
visor Doris Sweeney and a number of
society volunteers.
