Among the many advantages of childhood spent in a rural environment was the easy access to nature and natural phenomena. My spring routine, once the snow had gone and the brooks and streams were in full flood was to walk several miles along a forest trail to a small stream where the beavers would be at work. Each spring the beavers would construct a dam across the stream, creating a deep pool behind it. Each spring, rainbow trout would occupy this pool Once the debris had settled and the pool cleared so that one nant when using the pill properly When & women first starts the pill, she should star’ on the first day of her next period, not on day 5 as previously recommended. They scolded me indignantly for quite some time. Fortunately, I had dried off by the time I arrived home, so an explanation was never necessary Years later, as a young adult, | spent a summer's vacation at my sister's cottage on a small island in a Northern Ontario lake. Access being only by snowmobile or boat, depending on the season, over the years a full system of boat housing docks, a water pump and out buildings had been developed Their first season of occupan cy, they had arrived on the long May weekend, to discover that beavers had built their “house’ inside the boat house. The debris had clogged the water pump and the ice and criss-crossed sticks had pushed the walkways into a tangled mess. The air became blue with recriminations against our indus trious national symbol. Repairs on an island, were tedious and costly. The next year, they dis covered the beavers had built a house under the dock and had eaten an egress/exit hole, a neat circle, right through four inch thick planks.
