By ROBERTA HAMILTON The Kootenay Columbia District Council. has a new chairman, Jim Waldie accepted the position at the annual November general meeting. Born in Nelson and raised in | Robson, Jim grew up in a Scouting family — his father was Robson Group Committee chairman and his brothers all joined Scouting. He completed Cubs and Scouts with the Robson troop in the 60s. In 1972 he was Assistant Seouter and then Troop Scouter in the Trail-Rossland District. Since 1978, he has’ been Assistant District Com- missioner Campfires in that district. He is well known for his expertise in conducting Scouting campfires, where songs, skiteand yells are great fun for all boys and adults alike. Of course, Jim enjoys music and singing — he is a director with the Rossland Light Opera Players, and has participated in their presentations. Jim is married, with a young son. His goal is to encourage more participation and interest in the district by parents and other interested adults. The district needs such volunteers in order to be most helpful to the leaders, boys and group committees that it oversees. At the annual meeting, outgoing chairman Bert Lamb was presented with a book on British Columbia and thanked for his service. Mark Zurek, who leaves the position of District Commissioner, was presented with a plaque and thanked for his five years of volunteer work in that position.
