Subsidiary agreements un- der the GDA allow for major developments in industry, wa- ter services, recreation and other areas, with the cost split: 50-50 between the two senior governments, Mr. Fraser said that the industrial park at Columbia Gardens is close to reality. The client had to complete a feasibility study of his opera- and has arranged his own ncing. “In other words, DREE funding was only available to him if he could prove he was fine without it. In addition. the client had to own 20 per cent of * his operation.” Mr. Fraser referred to a meeting in Ottawa last Novem- ber, at which he and Kootenay West MP Bob Brisco talked to the minister responsible for DREE, Marcel Lessard. He terms the meeting “satisfac tory", but says that he has since tried to get up-to-the-minute in- formation on the status of a DREE extension. “I've phoned his office,” he said, “and I've been promised an immediate reply. But there's been nothing for 10 days.” Mr. Fraser said part of the problem seems to be that Mr. Lessard’s secretary speaks only French. “That seems to sum up Expansion , OF Airport Continues (continued from page 1) assist the committee in the ie, difficult problem of park- ing. ” He said the airport man- ager would appreciate passen- gers boarding the aircraft to leave their cars at home and use the airport limousine ser- vices available or be brought to the airport by friends who can return their cars home. “The parking problem has become critical due to long-stay parking. Attending a meeting with the MPs in Kelowna were Castlegar residents Ann Hold- en, Jim Lenihan, Cathy Harri- son and Bud Godderis. Several ~ statements were given by the Castlegar the Canadian government to get at the root of the problem, 3. There are many myths still prevailing in Canada, For example, many Canadians still belleve that the problem is caused by over-population; the truth is that mass poverty causes over-population. Many believe that better systems of distributing ald would solve the problem; the truth is that aid is. no longer enough and better systems of trade and commerce . are urgent in order to help the developing 1 nations become self- reliant, 4. Across Canada we the MPs, including views on appropriate technology as a weed for Third World coun- tries, and remarks on Canadian aid and the education of the Canadian people.
