blends since 1979. With
green gasoline becoming
more popular in Canada,

renewable farm resources,
and not just import Ameri-
can ethanol, thereby
exporting Canadian jobs.

that current federal policies
supporting ethanol will

for the industry to get on
its feet. That way, new fuel
ethanol plants will be built

are all important for tire safety, long
tire life, and driving satisfaction. But
they're just the beginning. Your
tires aleo need proper care.

The suggestions and tire tips in
this column will help you to get the
maximum return on your tire
investment.

Any discussion of alignment
usually Involves three terms:
caster, camber, and toe. What Is toe?

Toe describes the measured distance
the front of the two tires on

the same axte compared with the distance
between the rear of the same two tires. The
objective of proper toe is to make the tires

The left illustration in our exaggerated
diagram (looking down on the vehicle),
shows positive toe. It is often called toe-in
because the front of the tires are closer
together than the rear of the tires. The right
illustration shows negative toe, or toe-out. A
toe-out condition exists when the rear of the
tires are closer together than the front.

Excessive toe-in causes a feather edging
type of wear on the outside edges of the tire
tread. Toe-out causes the reverse, feather
edging of the inside shoulder edges. Radial
tires may show other types of wear as a
result of improper tos.

Incorrect toe can cause irregular wear
around the tire, or a diagonal wiping type of
wear across the tread.
