Leaving Rossland at 7:30 a.m. we arrived at the course in Christina at about 8:30 for a shotgun start at 9. Each tee had three foursomes and it was sort of a slow start, but once we got going we rolled right along and finished our nine before noon. Lunch was served at 1 p.m. and some of the guys went around again after the prizes were handed out. Topping the list for low net was local golfer Ches Edwards and Rossland-Trail's Lou Crowe, each with 32. Following them were Bud Comba, Walt Gerrard and Eddie Nofield of Trail and Clyde Nyman of Rossland with 33; Bob Melrose, Bob Mann, Zeke Clements and Joe O'Connor were next with 23 and then came Butch Zak, Duke Scodellaro, Jock McRobb, Bud Hachey and Danny Williams with 35 and Percy Hamilton and Dick Pearce with 36. Special prizes for categories unnamed went to Tom Reed, Doug Cavill, Jack Acres, Bill White, Richie Watkinson, Les Brown and Darrell Varner. All in all it was a great day spent in the company of a lot of old friends, from the curling and golfing parties of past years. I enjoyed every minute of it, playing with Bud Comba, Dan Burnett and our host Harry Thorpe made it that much more enjoyable. I was definitely outclassed on every hole, but, what else is new? Tuesday we were back on the upper course for our regular weekly outing, we played hidden partners and low net. Jack Buchanan and Sam Martin came out on top with 73 while Jack Barnes and guess who had a 74. There were 24 golfers out under lowering skies but most of them made it before the rains came. Our foursome of Rich Watkinson, Cleve Cowland and Carl Seefeldt played the last hole in a light rain but it wasn't bad and was soon forgotten in the warmth of the clubhouse. The finals of Rossland's Slow-Pitch season were played over the weekend and John Habicht passed along the results. The league winner was Wise's Scrap but they did not survive the playoffs. Rossland Legion's Royals were second in the standings followed by the Orwell Hotel, Rossland Motel and Payless. In the playoffs it came down to the Royals and the Orwell in the final and the Royals came out on top, winning the Joe Issel trophy in the process. Pierre Trudeau was vacationing in the Shuswap Lake area when his canoe .overturned, dumping him into the chilly waters. Two youngsters saw the accident and rowed over to help. Trudeau thanked them and asked what they would like in return. After one boy had stated his request, the other said he would like a state funeral. When asked why such a young fellow was interested in that sort of thing, he replied: "What I get home and tell dad who I pulled out of the lake, he'll do what's needed for a funeral." ke Scodellaro, Jock' McRobb, Bud Hachey and Danny Williams with 35 and Percy Hamilton and Dick Pearce with 36. The Warriors have been working out at the Beaver Valley arena for the past week or better. I haven't been able to get out there to watch them but Thursday, they started practicing at IJ home. I had another meeting T but will get a look at what SI they have tonight. Their first exhibition game is scheduled for Oct. 1 against Grand Forks in Rossland. While on the subject of hockey, I have word that former Warrior defenceman, Pete Corrado, is playing in Australia at the present time. I didn't get any details on where and was thinking he could be playing alongside of a couple of Trail boys who are also over there. Peter was a big man on the , Warrior defence over the past couple of years and will be sorely missed during the coming campaign. Apparently my message of last week was picked up by some people in the B.C. hockey scene. I heard last night that there could be a
