Myrtle Carlson =

A pioneer Castlegar district resident, Myrtle Evelyn Carlson,
passed away in Castlegar Hospital at noon on Jan. 28, 1991, after
several months of illness.

A resident of the Castlegar area for 74 years, she was we sinis of

"72 children born to Capt. J.A. and Lillian B.

Born at Pense, Sask., on June 29, 1904, she came to Kinnaird
with her family in 1913, In 1924, she travelled to San Francisco to
marry Andrew Carlson. They returned to their small farm in Castlegar
in 1928. Their property is now the location of the Silver Birches
Mobile Home park.

‘Myrtle’s interests and activities were always centred around her
home and family and she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

A lifelong member of the Anglican Church, she was organist for
many years at St. John’s Anglican Church in Kinnaird, which was
later combined with St. David's.

She is survived by her daughter Betty-Jane McLeod of Castlegar,
with whom she made her home for many years; daughter and son-in-
law Marian (Molly) and Bruce Spencer of Sardis, B.C.; grandchildren
Gladys and husband Vincent Mcintyre, Lucinda and husband Allan
Fry, Sarah and husband Wayne Fry, John McLeod, Susan Spencer,
Eleanor and husband Abraham Setton, and Steven Spencer; and seven
great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by Joseph F. Killough, John C. Killough,
James R. Killough and Helen Dunlop, all of Castlegar; Annie Ball of
Victoria; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. from St.
David's Anglican Church in Castlegar with burial to follow in Park
Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Dorothy Barker will officiate.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Myrtle’s
name to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 1228, Rossland,
B.C. V9G 1Y0.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Castlegar
Funeral Chapel.

Jesse Koening

Jesse Howard Koening of Deer Park passed away Monday, Jan.
28, 1991, at age 73,

Mr. Koening was born at Stapleton, Neb., and moved to
Anderson, Calif., in 1933. He served in the navy during the Second
World War. He married Geraldine McCluen on Sept. 26, 1944, at
Reno, Nev.

Mr. Koening moved to Tacoma, Wash., in 1950 where he worked
as a plumber and pipe fitter for the U.S. Navy. He came to Canada in
1972, making his home at Deer Park. He loved the outdoors,
especially hunting and fishing. Mr. Koening also liked playing
horseshoes and cribbage. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of
Tacoma and the Moose Lodge of Redding, Calif.

Mr. Koeing is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Deer Park; two
sons, Lee Helle of Spokane, Wash., and Gene Hamilton of Peoria,
IIL; five il four gi H one brother, Gale of
Heber Springs, Ark.; five sisters, Pearl Gehrman of Merna, Neb.,
Opal Georgian, Vita-Mae Patton, Marjorie McDonald and Joyce
McDonald, all of Redding.

There will be no funeral service by request of Mr. Koening.
Cremation has taken place.

Angelina Ferreira

Angelina Ferreira of Castlegar passed away Thursday, Jan. 24,
1991 at age 84.

Mrs. Ferreira was born Oct. 20, 1906, at Azores, Portugal, and
spent most-of her life there. Her husband passed away in 1960 and she
came to live with her children in Castlegar in 1963. She was a member
of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and enjoyed sports, especially hockey,
and travelling.

She is survived by three sons, Jim of New Bedford, Mass., and
Tony and Thomas of Castlegar; eight grandchildren; two brothers,
Tony Costa of Castlegar and Joe Medeiros of Toronto; two sisters,
Hermina Costa and Maria J. Tiburco, both of Toronto.

Prayers were recited Friday evening at St. Rita’s Catholic Church
and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday with burial at
Park Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Castlegar
Funeral Chapel.

Wayne Quiding

Wayne Gordon Quiding passed away Jan. 2, 1991, at
Shaughnessy Hospital after a long illness.

Wayne was born in Nelson, B.C. on Sept. 3, 1948. He lived in
Blueberry Creek, Trail and came to Vancouver in 1963.

He was a longshoreman and worked on many construction jobs.

He will be sadly missed by his mother Norma Quiding; brothers
Dave, Elmer and Warren; sisters Karen and Christine; and many
Nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts,

He was predeceased by his father Victor in 1968; and brothers
Morris in 1954 and Wendell in 1982.

Funeral service was held Jan. 9 at Glenhaven Funeral Chapel with
Rev. Barry Morris officiating.

Wayne was Godfather to Louise Quiding.
