Deb, as he was known to his friends, was born in Vancouver and came with his family to New Denver in 1920 when his father was appoin ted manager of the Bank of Montreal. He took most of his schooling in New Denver and went on to the Nelson Business College. He also learned the electrician’s trade and worked for the new Denver Power and Light Co. under C. J in Silverton. When the Second World War broke out, Campbell, and also for the Western Exploration Co. he answered the call of his country and joined the Armed Forces, serving in the RCCS 5th Canadian Armoured Division and saw service in England, Italy and Holland When peace was declared he returned to New Denver and accepted a position as stockman with the Department of Public Works. After many years in this position he left to join the staff of the old Slocan Community Hospital as its administrator where he served until 1974. He then served on the hospital board for many years and was chairman of the board when the new hospital was constructed in 1981 He served his community well and at the time of his death he was people’s warden of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, a position he held for 31 years, He was also treasurer of the New Denver-Silverton Branch No. 101, Royal Canadian Legion, and-held this post for many years until his death. In addition he was serving as treasurer of Slocan Lodge No. 29, A.F. and A.M., and had been a member of the Masonic Order for 56 years, during which time he held the office of worshipful master for nine years, and also served as district deputy grand master in 1954. He was also a director of Dr. Brouse Lodge. He was a member of the New Denver Brass Band until its dissolution. In 1974, he was honored by the community when he was named a Citizen of the Year.
