Well, month No. 3 has now passed and I
must say that I am very well adjusted to my
new lifestyle here in Taiwan.

Christmas is just around the corner and
before I know it another month will have
passed!

Although I cannot speak Chinese fluently
as of yet, I am used to not understanding
anything and am used to the quick pace of
life here.

This past month, nothing overly exciting
occurred because I have my daily routine
and nothing seems to change.

I did have the chance to see some beauti-
ful sunsets in Taipei. Because there is much
air pollution here, everyday is almost guar-
anteed to have a lovely sunset.

This month I registered at university and
I am going there now. It is much more struc-
tured than the classes at the YMCA — we

dian, an American and a Korean. My teach-
er is very good and we get along well.

Elections are on Dec. 19 and there is
much campaigning. Everywhere there are
campaigning vehicles invading the streets
of Taipei with their loud, irritating music
and campaign speeches.

There are actually quite a few problems
with some of the political parties.

The KMT is a very large and very
wealthy party and they buy votes.

They have representatives that go door-
to-door and tell people if they vote for their
party they will give you a certain sum of
money. Interesting, eh?

This upcoming election is very important
because which ever party gets elected will
decide whether or not Taiwan will become
an independent country.

I had the wonderful experience of renew-

work involved and the foreign affairs police
are so picky here.

Needless to say, it is done and over with
until next time. It would be much more con-
venient to get a resident visa, but, we can-
not.

The weather has been very changeable.
Sometimes it is very warm, around 30
Celsius, but then it will drop down to 15 C.
Although this really is not that cold, it is
when everywhere you go is that tempera-

ture.

There is no such thing as central heating
or wood stoves here. So at times it really
feels cool — especially after getting out of
the shower!

The weather changes also brought sick-
ness.

Yes, I was a bit under the weather — I
had tonsillitis. It is awfully hard to learn a
language when you cannot even talk!

Needless to say, I am over it now and am

now living in Taipei. It is much more conve-
nient — a 20-minute walk to school versus
at least an hour on the bus!

It is amazing how much stuff one can ac-
cumulate in such a short period of time.
Moving was interesting!

With the holiday season almost here, I
have had all my Christmas shopping to do. I
will be going to Japan for Christmas, so it is
going to be strange going from one foreign
country to another for a holiday season.

Taipei is well-decorated for Christmas.
However, it is strange to walk down the
streets and have no snow, complaining that
it is too hot.

So this is all that has really occurred this
last while. I am still having a wonderful
time here and am enjoying my new lifestyle.

Christmas and a Happy New Year.
