As the result of a recent confer- erce between Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Israel Tarte, «minister of public works, and other prominent Liber- als, it is practically decided to have the general elections some time in January, and that there is‘not likely to be another session of parliament. Mr. Tart has heretofore ridiculed the idea of an early election, but}¢ this was accepted in the nature ofa bluff and there is little doubt of an appeal to the country. Times are prosperous now, and i proposed te take advantage of such condi- tions rather than risk the chances of delay, and the exposures which another session of parliament might ‘reveal. ‘Today all is splendor, gaiety and decoration in New York city, and the people are extending to Admiral Dewey, the American hero, such a reception and ovation as the warm- est patriotism and enthusiasm can suggest. Never has there been such a rush and crush for hotel modation. From far and near ex- .cursionists are swarming into New York city. Flags and bunting adorn every building. Magnificent arches overhang the streets, and floral designs and emblems ate everywhere _ in evidence. Governors, ciptains of vessels in Dewey's fleet, members of the cab- inet and officers high in the navy have arrived and estimates as to the number of visitors in the city range from 600,000 to 1,000,000. Most of the railroads agree that unless weather conditions are most un- favorable they will have carried 2,- 000,000.visitors. All available pas- senger equipment of the various. accom- railroads is being concentrated at} Dry the most advantageous termini. tor bringing crowds into"New York.’ It shows, the railroad men say, that the visitors who are coming to New York have plenty of money to spend. The Jupiter Group, on the north fork of the. Salmon, owned ‘by the Katie D. Green Gold Mining com- pany, is attracting. much: attention, and has been visited by a number of Rossland mining men. The prop- erty was recently purchased by Mr. George Green, of the Grand Union hotel. Mr. Green organized a com- pany for its development, and quite a little stock has found sale at 73% cents. Among the recent. visitors were W. H. Danby, E. B. Irving, W.. B. Townsend and Thomas: E. Miller. “Having decided-to inspect the Jupiter group of claims, in| which I am personally interested,” said Mr. Danby, ‘‘I,starced:from Erie with a party of gentlemen bent on ‘the: same errand. After a short.climb,: reached the property, whére I found work oing on in'the shape of a shaft, '%4| but solid silver-lead ore. ‘| be-seen at my office: now doWn'some thirty feet. I went’ down the shaft, which is 5x8 feet, and found a well-defined lead of four feet six inches in width and all in cre. A couple of shots were fired, which broke off some very fine:zinc galena ore,the body of which is evi- dently very large. © Without doubt the Jupiter.is destined to be a ship- per, provided work is sustained in the present energetic manner. The facilities for shipping are good, as the ore can be rawhided in winter at little expense, to the base of Jupiter mountain, which is within easy distance of the main wagon road leading to the ‘Second Relief mine, or an aerial line could be es- tablished direct to said road. Alto- gether the situation is a very good one, and timber and water are plen- tiful in the neighborhood.” Mr. Irving said: ‘'In conjunction with other gentlemen from Ross- land I visited the Jupiter group. I found on the Jupiter claim a_ shaft thirty feet deep, which Mr. Green had the miners put two shots int» the bottom of, blowing out nothing I found the lead to be over 44% feet wide without foot wall in sight. [ have been in a number of mining camps but never saw such a fine body of ore at the depth of thirty feet. . The lead is strong and unbroken and in a solid formation. There is plenty %4| of good, live timber and water, and transportation is good. With good management the Jupiter. group is sure to prove a good paying mine.” “I formed one of the party to “| visit the Jupiter group on Jupiter mountain,” said W. B. Townsend, ‘fand on going down the shaft. was greatly. pleased at the showing madé. The lead cuts right across the s aft, angling cornerwise, and shows 434 feet of splendid looking ore. The ore wall is well defined, t is impossible, to tell you, how even, awith the present showing, the owners have. a very encouraging outlook. The ore Il took out can It was taken out by myself after two shots were put in by the miners ata depth of twenty-nine feet from’ the surface.” Mr. Thomas-E. Miller-said: ‘‘This being my, second trip of inspection i cept the sum of $60 from Mah Hong to the'Jupiter group, ‘ 1 “ai Better pleased than even. with the property.
