Organizers of the Banff International Festival of Films for Television were nearly overwhelmed — by world-wide revogaition for their first festival in 1979. and they hope Canadians will finally begin to take note as preparations for this year's festival near completion. Director Carrie Hunter hopes the festival will achieve the same prominence in the television film industry as Cannes has a cinema showcase. But she also wants to maintain the intimacy of a small festival under one roof at the Banff Centre, a school for fine arts and management studies. More than 800 films from more than three dozen coun- tries are already lined up for this year's festival, to be held Sept. 20-80.
