' Ny, Pulpit & Pew By Pastor IRA JOHNSON Kinnaird Church of God OUR LEADER IS NOT DEAD! There are many religions in the world today. Many of these religions have similar. ities, one of which is the fact that they represent man kind's arch for God. Another similarity would be the great importance at tached to the burial place of the founder of the religion. But Christianity is unique, in that it represents God's search for man. In other words, God took the initia tive and entered human his. tory in the person of Jesus Christ, in order to meet our spiritual needs. Furthermore, we are con fident and assured that Christ our Leader was not able to be held captive by death, and that He is alive forevermore. Someone has expressed it like this: “Our faith is not in dead men's bones . . . . but in the living Christ, who walks and talks with men today.” 18 CHRIST REALLY ALIVE? We need to know for sure, if our faith is to be strong. If there had been only one or ly two reported pearances” of Christ during the week following Jesus's death we might well have serious doubts as to the truth of His resurrection, We may have wondered whether Christ's appearances were nothing more than “wishful thinking” on the part of the grieving disciples. Obviously, our Lord knew that His disciples would need to be completely certain that He had risen from the dead. That is precisely why He appeared so many different times, to so many different people, over such an ex tended period of time. Not only did Jesus appear to Mary in the garden (John its very survival Preservation program Society can match the amount Moyie was pull ore covered by MOYIE PRESERVATION FUND! B.C. VOG IMO. MOYIE that threatens Lake Historical Society, so 20:10-18), to the 10 disciples (V 19-21), to doubting Thom- as (V 24-29), and in the early verses of John 21; We read of Him making breakfast for His disciples down by the lake. Luke tells us how He ap- peared to the two disciples who were on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:18-85), The apostle Paul tells the Corinthian Christians that Christ appeared to more than 500 persons on one occasion! (1 Corinthians 15:3-8), Not only are there two or three reliable witnesses, but there is a huge courtroom full of witnesses, many of whom not only saw Him, but who ate with Him and even touched Him! (See Luke 24:36-42 also Acts 1:1-3). WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? Christ's resurrection and victory over death is what sets Him above every other leader or deliverer. It dem- onstrates His divine power. It fulfills Christ's promise to His disciples that He would rise again, and gives us con fidence in His promise to each one of us when He said: “Because I live, you shall live also.” (John 14:19). Earlier, in that same chap- ter, Jesus told his disciples not to be troubled because He was going to heaven to Prepare a place for them, and that He would return and bring them to the place He had prepared for them (St. John 14:1-3). Though He would be ab- sent from them in His physi- cal body, He promised to be with them in a very personal way through His spirit (see John Chapters 15, 16, 17). His final words to His dis- ciples were “go into the world and preaclRhis good news to every person, and remember .. . I am with you to the end of the world.” Our Lord's resurrection does make all the difference, for we not only have a mes- sage of salvation from sin, but the glorious message as well that there is hope be- yond the grave for all who will trust in Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord. Women's Institute iscusses bursary ¢ ne member was missing at the regular mon- thly meeting of Robson Wo- men’s Institute. The meeting opened with the Mary Ste- wart collect and both the minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurers report was passed. There was much discussion regarding the scholarship and bursary for Stanley Humphries secondary school students. Our presenter this year will be Ethel Ewasiuk. Kathy McGivern will be in charge of catering for today’s Robson Flea Market. The meeting was chaired by Jean Lloyd. All members brought handicrafts for the conference and a lively ses- sion of show and tell high- lighted the meeting. Ethel Ewasiuk is to be the delegate for the conference, with a special meeting on April 27 at the home of Emily Scott to finalize all the plans for Robson's 75th anniver- sary, when eight districts will be representing the West Kootenay at the con- ference on May 4. The secretary read min- utes of the previous con- ference in Salmo. These were discussed, as well as infor- mation regarding the con- ference from the district sec- retary. The next meeting of the institute will be at the home of Kathy McGivern in the form of a luncheon meeting. The day is changed from Wednesday, May 11 to Thursday, May 12. Little As Deliver!
