SPECIAL COMMITTEE'S REASONS Copy of the Report Forwarded to the Provincial Authorities. There was a full. attendance at the regular meeting of the city council last night. * The report of the special com- mittee on'sewérage was considered, It was decided to’ furward . to Hon. 0. A. Semlin, premier, and Hon. James Mar- tid, M. P. P., each a copy of the report, which was adopted unanimously by the "| eounell. SPECIAL COMMITTEE'S REPORT. . The report states that. the installa- tion of the sewerage system last year cost $3,506; that it was intended to con- nect it with the Columbia river, but the provincial health act requires that the submission of the provincial board of health must be firat obtained. Accord- ingly a fall statement of plans and spec- ifications of the system was sent to that body and was duly accepted, with one vital exception, i.e., it positively re- fused the solicited permission to dump «| the sewage into the Columbia river, and ‘suggested as a fit disposal of the sewage} aeubsoil irrigation scheme. In 18988 sanitary engineer investigated and re- ported to the council a set of plans and approximate cost of same, on the system recommended ‘by the board’ of health. A mass meeting of citizens was held and it‘was decided not to vote the amount ‘they’ believed the-cost-too great, Especially as it’ was only an ex- perimental system. ~ FIVE REASONS WHY. The reasons why the eewage should go into the river are then given. Ist—The citizens will not vote the money t y to put in providing for salarica for the mayor and aldermen, . The ©. P. R. waa given permission to put in crossings on St. Paul, Lincoln and Monte Christo streets, and were refused. permission to run -through lane ‘in block 25, as it would shut off outlet for all property owners in block.
