“Curling Club Studies Building Own Rink Dear Sir: : The following letter has been sent by the Castlegar Curling Club to the Village of Castlegar. A copy is attached for the infor- mation of your readers, — R, H. Jeffery, president, Castlegar Curl- ing Club, . . * Dear Sirs; - The Castlegar Curling Club would Ike to extend the club's appreciation to members of coun- cil for their interest and co-opera- tion with parties concerned dur- ing the recent problem of ice rent- al at the arena. . The club would also like to take this opportunity to inform council that a temporary settle- ment has been achieved, which will remove the urgency from the ice rental problem for the remainder of the 1963-64 season, For information of council, We would like to advise that the Curling Club recognized negotia- tions had reached an impasse, whi- Sentic Tank Survey Being Considered A septic tank trouble survey, similar to that carried out in Cas- tlegar, is to be conducted in Gen- elle by the West Health ch points up the fact that the Curl- ing Club must, if it wishes to main- tain curling under the desired cir- cumstances, build a curling rink over which it will have undisputed control, This of course places on the Curling Club, the inherent responsibility of building and ope- rating the curling rink,on a self- paying basis, thus removing the possibility of the burden of a sub- sidy falling onto the taxpayers of Castlegar, Therefore a “crash” program, within the Curling Club, has al- ready been set up, to accumulate in the shortest possible time, all facts required to determine the type of curling rink desired, Ioca- tion, method of financing with to- tal cost and operation costs, in order that the final decision to build or not to build may be made at a general meeting of the Curling Club around Feb. 18, It should be possible then, if the word is “GO”, to start construc-| + 1 being set as the probable date. With the plan already set up and in operation now, the club has agreed in principal to support the Project Society where ever possi- ble in finishing up the arena pra ject as per plan for use of skating and hockey activities, e s % a ment tion in the spring of 1964 with May Ss f never TH ee TS JAN. 25° y 49th Cominco Employee Joins Wise Owl Club Another employee of the Con- solidated Mining and Smelting Company. has. won membership in the unique Wise Owl Club of Ca- nada for. saving his eye from da- mage in an accident, Edward G.
