a \ Drilling right revenue - shows drop EDMONTON (CP) — Rev- enues from provincial sales of oil and gas drilling rights, dropped 41 per cent last year from the record pace of 1980 and industry observers say things don’t look much better for the year ahead. Preliminary figures from the Alberta government show sales of licences and leases totalled $688.6 million in 1981, In 1980, sales were a’ ~ record $1.004 billion and in 1979 about $966.7 million. Some analysts suggested the Sept. 1 energy agree- ment might increase activity but after a lag of several months one source said he sees no sign of that. Schedules of land re- quested for sales through March show “a downward trend,” said the analyst, who asked not to be identified. Government statistics show exploration drilling was the hardest hit: That is re- flected in licence sales, which generally pertain to explor- . ation drilling. Sales of licences dropped to $375.8 million in 1981, about half the $740.5 million the year before. Total land involved .was 1.11 million hectares last year, down 36 . per cent from the 1.9 million hectares in 1980, Microwave oven dumping investigated TORONTO (CP) — Micro- wave ovens from Japan, Sin- gapore and South Korea —. which dominate the Canadian market — are being dumped in this country, the Ministry , of National Revenue ssys. Dog owner now believes VICTORIA (CP) — Many dog owners regard licence fees as a ransom they pay local government for owning a pet, but Paul Knowles of Saltspring Island, near Vic- toria, is a dog owner who now firmly believes in dog tags. Knowles believes he would have never seen his black Labrador Ramah again if it had not been for a collar tag. Knowles’ former wife had taken his black Labrador re- triever Ramah for a Christ- mas visit to their daughter's farm near Fairview, Alta. Unaccustomed to cold Al- berta winters, the dog ap- parently wandered onto an ice floe in the north Peace River. ‘At some point, Ramah jumped off the floe and started swimming. Down- stream his rescuers spotted him covered in ice in the 40 degree weather, struggling to get on shore. They pulled him up and thawed him out, later contacting the police. “You can bet I'll be spread- ing the message around (about dog licences),” Know- les said. business eoppniers —We are knowledgeable about cour product. —Backed by people wi Beams, We urge you to compare! by - qualitied . service rice in.
