DEAR DR. GRAHAM: Does the Bible say anywhere that
God hates some people? I have had such a herd life that I
sometimes’ wonder if he hates me.

DEAR MRS. B.T.: What God hates is sin. Yes, there are
some places in the Bible where God is said to “hate” a certain

person, but in. those situations it is clear his anger against
them is because of their open rebellion against him and their
refusal to obey him (A good example is the story of Jacob and
his brother Esau; Esau stubbornly refused to seek God's will,
and God said, “I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated”
{Malachi 1:3).

But the Bible constantly tells us that God loves each one
of us. He hates our sin, and it grieves him when we turn from
him and seek to live without him. But he loves us, and wants
us to be his children. The Bible says that “God is love” (I John
4:16).

How do I know God loves us? How can you know God
loves you? We-can know that God loves us because he.sent
Jesus Christ into the world to take away our sins and be our
savior. The Bible tells us, “This is how God showed his love
among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we
might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice
for our sins” (I John 4:9-10). Like every other human being,
you are a sinner in God's eyes and your sins have separated
you from God. But Christ died on the cross to take away your
sins. By putting your faith and trust in him you can be saved
and become a child of God. If you have never taker that step
of faith, I urge you to do so right now.

know Christ, you know that.God is always with you to help
