News that school boards across the province are being forced to slash jobs as though they were slashing prices in Crazy Dick’s Stereo Emporium should have alarm bells ringing. It started with Victoria, when some 240 unsuspecting teachers got the lessons of their lives when umpteen collective years of education and dedication were all-but-erased by pink slips. The shockwaves from that mammoth step backwards were felt around the province as school boards braced us for the worst. In Castlegar, we appear to have got off easy — thanks, in no small part, to the frugal yet forthright thinking of the present board. It appears that School District No. 9 will escape this province-wide raping of our education system with only a few bruises — two jobs will be lost. Trail, on the other hand, can expect to cut in upwards of 30 teaching positions. Wonderful. The government has stopped short of blaming this problem on the boards themselves. What a cop out. If the government. was as committed to education as it claims, it would insist that our children are $0...YOU WANT A JOB INTHE NDP HIRING
