The Castlegar Sun Wednesday, March 18, 1992 By Toni D'Amato ow old is Kari Maiden, and where was he born? Also, did he star in any series other than “The Streets of San Francisco”? What is he doing these days? — G.B., Farming- dale, N.Y. Malden was born on March 22, 1913, in Chicago, which makes him 79 years old. In addition to his hit series, “The Streets of San Francis- co” (1972-77), he starred in the short-lived series “Skag” (1980). Malden began appear- ing on Broadway in 1937 and began doing films in 1940. In 1947, he played Mitch on Broadway in the original pro- duction of “A Streetcar Named Desire.” He played the same role in the 1951 film and won an Academy Award. Malden recently starred in the TV movie ‘‘Back to the Streets of San Francisco.” I< been watching Disney cartoons since I was a child, and new my own chil- dren watch them. We've heard much about Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck over the years, but little about any of the other characters, such as Goofy, whe is my favorite, and ; Pluto. How old is Goofy? — E.P., Jersey City, N-J. Goofy was introduced in a black-and-white Mickey Mouse cartoon in 1932. He was Originally called Dippy Dawg, and his name evolved to Dippy the Goof in 1938. In 1939, it was changed to Goofy. The lovable character was first given voice and his “goofy” laugh by Disney story man, musician and ex-circus clown Pinto Colvig. I Cybill Shepherd still mar- ried to a doctor? What is his name? How many children does she have? — F.R., Boul- der, Colo. Shepherd, who was such a hit in the series “*Moonlighting,”’ has been married and di- vorced twice. Her first hus- band was car-parts dealer Da- vid Ford, and her second was chiropractor Dr. Bruce Op- penheim. She has three chil- dren: Clementine, 12, and 4- year-old twins Zachariah and Ariel. Shepherd recently starred in the cable movie, “Memphis,” which was based on Shelby Foote's novel “Sep- tember, September.” She bought the rights to that book, wrote the screenplay with Larry. McMurtry and Susan Rhinehart. and pushed for years to get n produced FISH STORY - What was the mame of the movie in which Don Knotts turned into a fish? - C.D., Salt Lake City That 1964 fantasy was “The Incredible Mr. Limpet,” which combined animation and live action. Knotts played a man whose dream of becoming a fish comes true. FP WO Bi ARIES - March 21/April 20 There's a chance of an emotional upset in the next day or two. And it’s up to you to cope with the ensuing problems. If you lose your temper it could lead to heartache on all sides. So try to act the peacemaker, and don’t let other people lead you into hasty reactions. After mid-week, invitations and good news restore TAURUS — April 21/May 21 Encouragement from friends and loved ones help you discover hidden talents. Your life takes a turn for the better! New love interests seem to be Popping up everywhere. But, don't get too enthusiastic about new ideas this week it’s really a time for concentrating on routine. GEMINI - May 22/June 21 You are going to be in for a bit of a rough time this week. There could be some problems in a close rela- tionship. You've got to try to be philosophical about it and con- centrate on special interests. Your career demands extra effort; parents or those in authority rock your equi- librium look for balance. CANCER - June 22/July 22 Early this week, the weekend in par- ticular, should prove to be quite exciting in one way or another. Financial affairs are well high- lighted, showing this to be an ideal time for going ahead with business plans which call for some invest- ment. Affairs with members of the opposite sex are likely to prove most stimulating. LEO — July 23/August 23 You may be asked to put yourself out for an older person this week so do be prepared to be generous Your efforts certainly won't go unnoticed. Some good news pelps settle domestic matters harmoniously Try to get your home surroundings back in ship-shape condition. VIRGO - Aug 24/Sept 22 Your week will probably start off qui- etly. So take the opportunity to catch up on outstanding chores, and don't worry if work seems rather petty. Things are going to start livening up towards the end of the week; you'll bounce back and bright ideas will elate you as you call all the shots! LIBRA - Sept 23/Oct 23 A person of a different age group, either younger or older, features rather strongly at the moment — and the message is that you've got to be careful not to allow your authority to be undermined. Take care of your HOROSCOPES March 15-21 cash and belongings and don’t trust anyone SCORPIO — Oct 24/Nov 22 Your sense of fun is in bloom and your social life looks rather busy, with plenty of parties in the near future. Financial affairs look good this week, although it is not the time to start new money ventures or for taking gambles unless you can afford to lose your stake. You've for- jotten to answer an im) t letter! Get your reply off now SAGITTARIUS — Nov 23/Dec 21 There are likely to be some ups and downs in your life this week, so try to keep a low profile. Take great care to remember other people around you, because someone quite close to you is feeling just a little left out at the moment — and it’s up to you to make things right. Divulge your true feelings to those you care about. CAPRICORN - Dec 22/Jan 20 A relationship with someone close may be strained this week. Try to keep your cool, and don’t say any- thing you'll later regret. Listen to everyone's side of the story. Things will improve as the days go by, and within a week or two, life will be back to normal. Good news comes in the mail AQUARIUS - Jan 21/Feb 1 This is a “take-up-where-you-left- off” week; progress made recently on some pet project will be ‘part of this week. A sense of personal satis- faction comes with accomplishment Try to eat a better diet; vegetables will take you a lot further than chocolate. PISCES -— Feb 19/March 20 Much as you may crave for what will add a touch of luxury to your domestic amenities, don’t strain your financial resources to acquire what you can do without. A phone call from an old friend brings back many happy memories. A Scorpio acquaintence doesn’t have the best intentions. Don’t divulge too much information YOUR BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK The next 12 months: The beginning of this year may start out a little slow but, come June, things will really pick up. Love relationships will intensify, and sin- gles may find a new love interest entering the picture. You may be ited from a family member in the fall, but his or her winter return will add new depth to the relation- ship. A pet will add warmth and love to your life. by Bill Watterson ENERO are SHOVEL THE WALK !
