Perepelkin family has their fingers

Mi Missing man’s
relatives, friends remain
hopeful as they seek the
public’s help in solving
mystery disappearance

It has been two weeks since
Dennis Perepelkin went miss-
ing, but the flame of hope still
burns brightly among his fam-
ily and friends.

“We believe Dennis is still
alive and out there some-
where,” said his nephew Steve
Perepelkin. “Nobody’s giving
up hope.”

The 42-year-old Nelson man
disappeared Jan. 16 on his
way to work in Castlegar.

His Esso fuel truck was lat-
er found intact on the east side

of the Kinnaird Bridge with -

the keys still in the ignition.
After civilian and police
searches in the area failed to
uncover anything, the family
set up an information booth in
Castlegar Tuesday morning
asking for the public’s help.

By 3 p.m. Thursday, Steve
said that some 20 people had
come by with details.

“They'll come up and say
they saw a person walking on
the bridge (that morning),” he
said, adding that any informa-
tion is helpful.

“It’s a lot more than what
we had before.”

park new truck

Grants aren’t a problem for
the Tarrys Volunteer Fire De-
pay not at all.

the way of Tarrys is space. A
vast lack of it.

Last March, the depart-
ment applied for a Joint
Emergency Preparedness Pro-
gram grant and promptly re-
ceived $27,000 on Dec. 2.

That money, along with an
$18,000 GO B.C. grant, will go
towards the purchase of an
emergency rescue vehicle and
“Jaws-of-Life” equipment.

“We took delivery of the
Jaws system last Friday,” Tar-
rys-Fire Chief Ralph Merri-
man said, adding that crew

orientation took place last
weekend.

cle and Tarrys grand problem.

The department is eyeing a )

three-quarter ton four-wheel
drive with a wench.

“The fire hall is too small

for that size vehicle,” Merri-
man said.
_ Thanks to $64,000 in fund-
ing, Tarrys will be able to get
the truck wants. One slight
renovation job later.

“We're going to add'a small
garage to the side of the build-
ing to house the truck,” he
said. ;

Merriman said the order for
the truck was placed with
Riverview Chev-Olds in Trail
on Jan. 11, and that he wasn't

expecting delivery for a couple
of months.

“We're looking at the ve:
end of March at the earliest”
he said, adding that the truck
would be custom built.

‘To house the new truck,
Merriman said the cost of the
garage would be between $10-
$15,000, money the depart-
ment hoped to acquire
through a Feb 15 fundraising
dance at the Tarrys Fire Hali.
