McK WEN, THE jorisT. WonderfulFeate Performed Through His Influence Over the Mind. © The audience’ which faced Mr. P, H. McEwen, the hypnotist, at the opera house last evening only half filled the room, but it is safe to say that, when others learn of the feats he performed, they will go to see him and that he will draw lar- ger houses each evening during the week. Mr. McEwen begins by divesting the idea of hypnotism of all the non- sense with which charlatans have The Russel fiotel is first-class in every respect, Table is not ex- celled in Rossland. He then invited people from the audience to become his subjects and proceeded to put them into a hypnotic sleep by the pressure of his hands on their fore- heads, eyes and head. Some did not prove susceptible to his influ- ence and retired, but he finally set- tled down with eight men who read- ily received any mental suggestion he made to them, and acted upon “it. They laughed at funny stories which existed only in imagination, they became wildly interested in a supposed game of baseball, they sold imaginary bags of popcorn for imaginary dimes, one foot became rooted to the floor so firmly that it could not be moved, one arm be- came rigid when outstretched while the other became glued to the side. At the suggestion that there was no feeling in one hand, a needle could be run throngh it without pain and without drawing a drop of blood, while a prick in the other han would cause a start and draw blood. At the words: ‘‘Wake up; all right;’ the subject; would immediately come, to himself again. The actions of some of the subjects were so ludicrous, though performed in dead earnest, as to keep the audience in paroxysms of laughter. Mr. McEwen will repeat his _per- formance with changes every night, each evening this week. BUSINESS LOCALS. Sleigh bells and robes at Clark's.
