:) I EPP· ALICE J.:.,..Ootl~ Fint off, I bad better apolope for the boo-boo I made regarding the Retirees Curling Club meeting. It seems that the ice will not be in by Oct. 10, let alone have an open house. The idea was to combine that, and the annual meeting into one date. However, a date bas now been set and it is going to be both events on Oct. 29. Now, regardless of whether or not there is ice, the annual meeting will take place on that date. Retirees who read this and know some of our members who don't, should make sure the information gets around. There seems to be more people in Rossland who might enjoy the Retirees Club now that they no longer have to put in eight hours a day or the equivalent. We members will certainly go out of our way to make those thinking of joining very welcome in our ranks. In fact, we'll give you the red carpet treatment 1be Rossland Curling Association, the parent body of all curling clubs in town, is holding a meeting on Oct. 9 and there is no doubt there will be additions to the current rules and rates. We can only wait and see. I understand there are a number of applications for the ice-makers job. We all like the job that Mike Kraftcbick did for us last year and hope he returns. Why change when you have someone doing a more than adequate job. The current task the Retirees Club have undertaken down at the goH course is proceeding with everyone called upon pitching in to do the job of collecting fees. We run a pretty good show down there. The coffee pot is on most of the time and you are always welcome to drop in to the little house for a chin-fest. We don't know yet if the club anticipates lifting any leaves, if this is not done it will considerably shorten our season. People do not want to play when you can lose balls in the middle of the fairway. Other than this though, the course is in excellent shape. The greens are the best they've been all year and the replacement job on No. 9 is proceeding. The start of the KIJHL season really caught me off guard. I wasn't aware that it bad started until I was talking to the Rossland manager, Gerry Racicot, yesterday morning. The Warriors now have played two regular season games and both were losses. Beaver Valley Nitebawks scored sill: fint-period goals enroute to an 11-7 win. On Saturday a short-handed group of Warriors never gave up but were eventually beaten by the Rebel in castlegar 12-9. Gerry tells me the team bas added more players and the coaches are looking for more goals for and less against. Friday the team hosts Columbia Valley, their fint game against an East Kootenayteam. Sometimes my wife says to me, "I think you're doing too much." At times I think she's right, what with winding up the golf season, working down at the course, doing the odd stint when called upon at the Legion, preparing for a coming curling season, hockey games to watch, and then try to put it all together into this weekly effort, but I love every minute of il So I'll stay with it till something or someone stops me. And not expecting that to happen, I'm going to say, 'Til next time, then'! i •• ~ ,,, ~ 'l ·, •• ;, ..
