TICKETS: Library to run reading program By JUDY WEARMOUTH Librarian Once again, the Castlegar Library will run a children’s summer reading program with the aid of a Challenge "88 grant. The two students hired for the job are Colleen Drobot and Leslie Wilson. Drobot, a native of Coquitlam now resident in Castlegar, is studying Special Education at UBC. Wilson, from Castlegar, is planning to do English at UBC in the fall. They're looking forward to working with all aspects of the program as they both love children and books and are interested in crafts and music. The program starts July 11 and will cater to children from age three to Grade 5 or 6, in separate groups. More details about registration will be released later. Meanwhile, library circulation fig- ures built up again last month to 7,414 and 124 people joined. A policy for rental of the library meeting room has been drawn up. For security reasons, the room can be used only during library opening hours. It will be free for community groups, but commercial organiza: tions will be charged $25 rental fee. The famous genealogist, Ronald A. Bremer, from Salt Lake City, has been invited to hold a genealogy seminar in the library on July 25 at 7:30 p.m. Former research specialist for the Genealogical Society in Salt Lake City, Bremer has had 30 years’ experience in compiling family his- tories and his seminar is sure to hold a lot of interest for people trying to trace their family tree. Among the performers’ were Bryan Adams, George Michael, Rob- erta Flack, Stevie Wonder, Joe Cocker, Whitney Houston, Phil Coll- ings, the Eurythmics, Wet Wet Wet, Dire Straits, Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba and Salif Keita. The BBC said it was covering the 10-hour concert not as a political but as a musical event, but it broadcast opening comments that attacked South Africa's policy of apartheid, under which the country’s black majority has no voice in national af- fairs. Half the proceeds will go to anti- apartheid activities in Britain, and the rest will go to seven children’s charities in southern Africa. Grad Parent MEETING Mon., June 13 S.H.S.S.
