ROSSLAND EVENING RECORD, JULY 11. 1899. Letter from Vernon. Editor Recorp—Dear Sir: Since I last wrote, mining matters around Ver- nom have. commenced te move slong con- siderably), The War_. Eagle . Mining Company, ef Rossland, ia now conduct- ing negotiations with a view of purchas- ing the Morashee mine, which has heen Jeft in the hands of N.F, Cameron by the owner D. McIntyre. Tho War Eagle people have secured athirty daye’ option on the property, and two of their repre- ives left on day to the mine. Several claims in tha imme-. diate vicinity of -tho Morashee have given excellent assays on the surface in gold and copper. ‘West of us, in the Picola valley, a new copper camp has sprung into existence within the last fortnight, the ore con- sieting of malachite, copper pyrites and grey copper. The discovery was made accidentally by a farmer locating some ground for a ranch. No name has as yet been decided upon for the camp. Appearances point at present to the ex- istence of a vast copper country, stretch- ing north from Princeton right up to Kasaloops, and there will undoubtedly ariee a ceries of coppercamps along the valley between those two places. Suet as the eastern country from the Slocan up to the Duncan-Lardeau con- sists of an unbroken range of silver-bearing country, so does there exist in the west n range of copper bearing mountains, stretching from] Copper mounta‘n at Princeton right up to Kamloops and further north. Ver. non, being the natural centre of the weat, looks forward to becoming the distributing centre for a vast mining country before long. A. A. Watson, Vernon, B. C. . PERSONAL. ES Col. E. 8.
