The Crown corporation has told the Castlegar and District Heritage Society there will be no compensa- tion for flood damage to Zuckerberg Island. was never consulted about water levels. He says he never thought the access road would be in jeopardy. “The river has never been that high since they built the dam,” Coyle said. “The causeway was a gift from Argo (Industries Ltd.),” Coyle said. “What are you going to say when you're given a gift: _ ‘It’s not high enough?” Gruber says B.C. Hydro has done nothing outside of normal operating guidelines ‘What are you going to say when you’re given a gift: ‘It’s not high enough?” — Heritage society’s John Coyle Society president John Coyle says the causeway’s crown — or gravel top — was washed away by recent high river levels. But Harold Gruber says B.C. Hydro is not to blame. “The causeway was built within the operating range of the river and therefore B.C. Hydro cannot take the responsibility for damages — period,” the public affair co-ordinator said. Unimpressed with B.C. Hydro’s reply, Coyle said “(Gruber) is more full of sh** than a Christmas turkey.” Coyle admits B.C. Hydro for the Hugh Keenleyside Dam. “People got surprised by these flows. They en- croached within those range levels in the past couple of years, during periods of rel- atively low flow,” Gruber said.
