During a reading entitled Wings of the Future by Heather Peterson, the elected and appointed officers entered carrying lace-trimmed handmade doves each with a sprig of lily of the valley (the flower of the order) held in its mouth. As the officers took their positions each placed the dove around silver, fucshia and white floral arrangements at the front of the hall. ‘The flag was positioned by marshal Amy MacKinnon and the Holy Bible placed on the altar by chaplin Janna Sylvest. HQ Jennifer was then escorted to the east where she was given the laws and books of the Bethel and presented with the honored queen's pin and gavel by PHQ Patti. Heather and Andrew Peterson, sister and brother to HQ Jennifer, presented her gavel on behalf of the family. PHQ Patti was presented with her PHQ pin by her mother, Pat MacKinnon, and with a gift of appreciation from her officers by HQ Jennifer. She was then escorted to the altar where she knelt for the Bible signing ceremony, during which her song Chariots of Fire was played. After receiving greetings and congratulatory remarks, HQ Jennifer thanked everyone for coming and invited guests to stay for a social hour following the cross-closing ceremony. The serving tables were draped with white lace cloth over fucshia underlays then decorated with silver candlesticks and pink tapers, and fresh white and fucshia floral arrangements. Mary Foubister and Jean Sylvest presided as pourers for the afternoon. To date the Bethel has had an active term beginning with the operation of the concessions at both the/Slow Pitch tournament in July and the annual West Kootenay Kennel Club Dog Show in August. The girls also enjoy many social activities such as their annual pienic at Christina Lake. The first meeting of HQ Jennifer's new term was held Sept. 12 and encompassed a visit of Grand Guardian Joan Adams and Associate Grand Guardian John [lott and their spouses, and an initiation ceremony welcoming Tracy Kaminsky, Chloe Hegan and Victoria Thompson as new members.
