Esti- mates for the 1977 season indi- cate a very low catch, therefore there is no need for a closure as in previous years, ‘Research this’ spring by the Nelson fisheries staff indi- cates a large number of ling are present at Balfour, despite the low 1977 catch. Fishermen should be aware that some ling are tagged with red plastic tags and that any tagged fish should | be reported to the regional office of the Fish and Wildlife Branch. Graham Sherstobitoff Wins Jr. Golf Championship Rob Sh bitoff of School, Tim St. Thomas and Bill Patterson, took four firsts and two seconds to capture the overall aggregate award at the first annual B.C. High Schools Canoeing Regatta. The regatta, held on Shu- swap Lake at Chase, B.C, attracted approximstely 100 will take place at the Recre- ation Office and will begin on Monday. BY BOB RAFTER “The, fund-raising Swima- thon was held last Saturday and was a resounding success with over $2,400 in pledges brought in: by the swimmers. For this generous support, it is my pleasure, on behalf of the Castlegar Aquanaut Swim Club, to publicly thank all those who contributed. A note of thanks is to be forwarded to the service clubs’ of Castlegar for their support of the Aquanauts, The Castlegar hospital staff is also to be con- gratulated for their sponsoring of Mrs, Margaret Pryce in the Swimathon, Seventy swimmers took pert in the Swimathon and there were only seven who did not complete the mile (or 72 Japs of the Bob Brandson Memoria! Pool), The B.C. Safety Council Mile Swim was held in con- junction with the Swimathon and was also very successful. A total of 21 received the mile swim crest; while 16 swimmers received the crest and bronze “bar; two received 22% minutes for the mile.
