P-2-1 HERE AND - THERE WITH ARLEE Just recently I was accused! of doing crazy things so as to get material for my column. I Insist I am merely a victim of circumstance, and long before this column was ever dreamed of I was getting into and out of “crazy” predicaments, The other day I was going to. a meeting slightly late as usual Thought I, “if I follow the railroad track, I'l save time and energy.” Now I’ll swear I’ve Seen people walk along there in a most. degnified. manner — Ioaking just as if they were on an ordinary city street. So I started out — first putting one foot on each tie which made my footsteps too small and I found have opemtoed shoes! Just about the time I got nice Ty started in a free swinging stride, a train whistle blew. “Oh no,” I thought, “it woauldn’t be coming on this track.” There being only one track and a high bank on each side, it didn’t take Jong to convince myself. So I broke into a fast trot, hitting every third tie. When I got to where there were more tracks and could have moved aver, there was a long freight on the next track so I threw a fearful glance over my shoulder, measured the distarte between me and Wal- die’s warehouse and put on a new burst. of speed. The last 300 yards were done hitting ev- ery fourth tie with a monster practically breathing done my neck. From now on I”ll stick to the highway — what’s a mere car after an experience like that. But I insist I was a victim of circumstance. That all happened the day I planned a lawn party for Lind- that the. front heel trodding on, the toe af the left hind foot. Then I tried every other tie — that had me practically doing the splits with every step. Then I scuffed along in the cinders— g every third step to. say’s. fifth birthday and it rained all day so that was moved into the middle of the front room too. Funny how it only rains on Wed- nesdays and Sundays around -here. I suggest the stores and businesses close on Tuesdays and YOUR SECOND - HAND DEAL- er.
