/0 /1fi '. -t 'i77l REPP·JJALK I I just got through watching the first couple of innings of Blue Jay baseball. I have never been a good baseball watcher. It's just too slow for my taste and coming right after watching some pretty good hockey action the past few months, it seems to me sitting and watching a pitcher going a full count on more than one batter is a terrific waste of time. Anyway the Jays' season bas started and although the second hockey season hasn't yet, baseball will be "old bat" by the time the Stanley Cup winner is decided. I don't know why but I find that curling like we saw this past weekend in the World Cbampiombip can be a pretty good way to spend some time especially with an ending like that. It seems to me after the way he bad curled, Roger Schmidt desened a better fate, but the game of curling allows none. You throw one bad one and there goes your game out the window. We day a pretty good brand of hockey on Saturday night in Rossland. It would have been nice to see a few more fails in the stands for the sake of the Rick Hansen fund. When you figure the local kids were up against the team that won the Okanagan league, I thought they played real well. Not having some of the Rebels better players on the team, which would, no doubt have made a difference, the team of ours put on a pretty good show against the Junior "A" team. So, now local hockey is over for us and it makes one wonder if baseball will make some sort of a . comeback in Rossland this season. I know I miss a smnmer evening up at the park watching our locals ·play. I suppose I'd go to Trail if I drove a car but I don't so I shall have to be content with watching slow-p1tcb or soccer. There is some pretty good competition in both these sports and I think I particularly like the minor soccer. These kids go all out and with all the leagues for various age groups that operate around our area these days we are certainly getting some good sport. Perhaps not up to the top standards but pretty good to watch and a great sport for the youngsters who take part. I bad my first round of golf on Thursday of last week and shall be at the Retirees' opener this week. By the time that's over we shall have to be thinking about getting our Rossland guys in action. Hope the course opens soon! My first nine proved one thing, I've got a long way to go before I could make any kind of a living at the game but I shall not worry too much about that. I enjoyed it anyway. So until next time, I'll say, 'Byefornow!
