Kinnaird Firemen Drop First Playoff Game The Kinaird Figemen’s Softball team got off on the wrong foot in the Nelson Softball league playoffs by dropping their first game 10-7 to the Nelson Queens. Second game-of the series will be played tonight on the Civic Grounds in Nelson. - Keith Loewen, Queens chucker, allowed 10 hits. Phil Plotnikoff for Kinnaird allowed 6 hits and walked 10 men. Kinnaird came from behind in two frames to tie the game only to have Nelson come up. with a three run on- slaught in the eighth inning. VACATION SCHOOL CLOSES WITH FIRST COMMUNIONS AT KINNAIRD, SUNDAY Another _ religious vacation school came to an end, Sunday, August 10, with the solemn re- ception of First Holy Communion by seven Kinnaird and district children. This scene of devotion was the result of the Sisters of Atonement spending the past two weeks in Castlegar, Kinnaird and district instructing the children in their holy religion. Ninety-five children attended this year’s vacation school which covered a radius of over 30 miles including Robson East, Castle- gar, . Kinnaird, Genelle and Birchbank. The chidlren received prizes for their work in the study of religion, religious project material and arts and crafts. A three-tiered Coast And Okanagan Share Interest In - Rohson Wedding Robson Community Memorial Church was the scene of one of the seasons prettiest weddings Saturday morning when Audrey May, only daughter of Mrs. and the late A. W. Thorp was united in marriage with William Denys, elder son of Mr. Webb, Kelowna. Rev. E. H. Wal- lace performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her bro- ther, Walter W. Thorp, wore a floor-length gown of white net over taffeta, with yoke, lily- point sleeves and Chinese collar of lace. Her finger tip veil. was secured to her cap by sweet peas and she carried a,cascade bou- quet of pastel sweet peas, gyp- sophila and fern. An amethyst Pendant, a twenty-first birthday gift from her parents, was her only jewellery. Mrs, L. M. Flynn, Calgary, was matron of honor and Miss Francis Webb, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. Both were dressed in. maize organdie over white with plaited head- dress of*the same material, stud- ded with daisies. They carried baskets of shasta daisies and &8ypsophila. The best man was J. Ralph Burrett, Port Alberni and the usher W. Rex Thorp, brother of the bride. Mrs. J. Neill of Nelson was soloist and sang “‘O Promise Me” accompanied by Dr. W. L. Wright at the organ. Reception at Bride’s Home After the service, reception of guests was held in the garden of wedding cake, topped: with talis- man roses, centred a lace cloth on the bride’s table. Assisting in the serving were Mrs. J. Lawson, Castlegar; Mrs. W. T. Waldie, Robson; and the Misses Phyllis Humphries, Mary Wanjoff, Genevieve and Beverley Nelson, Mildred Raine and Dawn Waldie. ‘a Mrs. W. T. Waldie proposed the toast to the bride, which was responded to by the groom. The newly weds then left for a visit to Seattle and B.C. points before returning to Robson. Dressed in.a lace traditional Baptism gown, the gift of her aunt, Mrs. P. Zanet, the baby was baptized by the pastor Father Barnes.. Mr. and Mrs. P. Zanet of Castlegar were godparents. The parents served dinner-to re- latives and friends, at their home, following the ceremony.
