Columbia Valley Rockies demonstrated their superiority with an 11-1 romp . Friday and Beaver Valley Nite Hawks hung on to win 5-3 Saturday, disappointing a good crowd at the Complex. A bench clearing brawl at the closing buzzer in Saturday's game was indicative of the effects of adversity. Lorin Healy lost his cool and picked up his second game misconduct in as many nights. Officials had their hands fuli clearing the ice with emotions running high and other tussles threatening to tum serious. Lack of discipline has hurt the team during their current slide. “We took some bad chippy penalties in the third period,” said coach Cooper. G.M. Don Joice Added, “Players have been taking a penalty per game for unsportsmanlike conduct for mouthing off at the Referees - there’s no need for that kind of stuff.” On the positive side, the team played hard and Cooper is pleased with the play of his two most recent acquisitions as he tries to shore up the defence. “Jeremy Thompson and Chad Riddell have been solid out there. They take the body and finish their checks. With - Rob McLeod out with a seperated * shoulder we were happy to’ get Chad from Trail and Jeremy from Columbia Valley.” Thompson scored Castlegar’s only goal on Friday as the Rebels were routed 11-1 by the best team in the league. The Rockies have lost only three games this season and team size and speed proved . too much for a Rebels team that was augmented by two players from the local Midget Reps. “Derek Kazakoff and Nino DaCosta did OK considering the team we through them in against,” said Cooper. “They certainly got a taste of what it’s like to play Junior hockey.” . Matt Kolle started in nets for Castlegar but was yanked midway through the second with the score 7-0. Lorin Healy came in long enough to make 4 saves and allow two goals before being given the heave-ho for trying to split a Rockies’ helmet with bis lumber. Columbia Valley’s Chuck Steele and Olaf Kjenstad did enough damage tc win the game themselves with both scoring hattricks. Todd Bell and Kevin Epp notched a pair each while Jeff Dale rounded out the onslaught with a single. Beyond The Blueline... The only thing positive about the game against the Rockies was: that no one got injured. David Green continued with his hot hand assisting on all 4 Castlegar goals over the weekend, Remi Lavallee on the other hand has cooled off with only one assist in his last three games. Jarret Watis and Gien Ormsby failed to show from Kelowna again last weekend. Management is looking for ways to get them moved to Castlegar in the New Year. Being weekend warriors and not practicing with the team does not help Watts and Ormsby fit in and is detrimental to team morale.
