Three prizes are offered tor competition among those participating; $50 for the best float, $25 for the second best, and $25 for the neatest turn-out with a single or double cutter. It is ex- * pected ‘that the merchants, brewers, sawmill men and different civie or- ganizations will all’ be represe nted in this parade and that it will be the most notable affair of the kind evtr got up in the Kootenays. . b At 2 o'clock the first of the cutter races will be run on Columbia ave- nue. This .will be for single rigs, best three in five heats; prizes $50 and $25. Sandwiched in between these heats will be a race for double cutters, also three in five heats, prizes of the same value. “The: first of the dog races will also be run at the same time,-best two in three heats; prizes $10 and $5. At 3 o'clock, at the rink, the fancy Skating competition for the hip of the p and gold “and silver medals will take place, followed by the. provincial junior hockey championship, proba- bly between Nelson and Kossland. The skating races at the rink will be first on the evening’s program and will be as follows: One-mile ‘championship of British C: A for gold and silver medals; three- mile championship of British Colum- bia, Mackintosh cup and gold and silver medals; two short races for boys and two for girls, with prizes in the latter events to the value of $30. This will be,followed by the senior hockey match, probably be- tween Revelstoke and one of the winners of the previous day. ~ Saturlay’s sports will begin with the race for the snowshoe cham- pionship of Britis’ Columbia for the Le Roi cup, and gold and silver medals. The course may be the same as last year, but has not been definitely decided. The ski-jumping contest will fol- low—first for the championship of Canada and the War Eagle cup and gold and silver medals; next, for all over -15 not in the championship class; and lastly, for boys under 15. Weather permitting, this contest will take place on Spokane street, with a jump at the corner .of First avenue. - In the afternoon there will be cute ter and dog races again. The cut- ter races this time will be with own- ers up, prizes for single rigs $30 and $20; double rigs, $50 and $25. “These will be best three in five heats, as before. race will take place at the same fime and will be for prizes of $7 and $3, winners in the first day’s race barred. In the evening at the rink the finals for both the senior and junior hockey championship of the prov- rice will be played off, after which the prizes will be presented to the winners. Including the prizes offered for in the & piel, the prize tist figures up-to about $3000 and all contests are open to allama- teurs without entrance fee. The matter of decoration for the. carnival has been provided for by offering three prizes of $50, $30 and $20 for the best decorated buildings in town, Manager Camp- bell, of the West Kootenay Power & Light company, has also kindly offered to install a number of extra arc lights in the business part of town for the carnival week.
