However, a letter we received last week turns the entire situation around and will not only be received with great relief, but may give hope to some other sufferer with a similar problem here. The letter reads in part: Casilla 2424, Quito, Ecuador, 8.A., April 6, 1983 Dear Jack and Bunny and Bruce et. al: “,.. one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” (John, 9:25) Around noon on Thursday, March 26, I knew I'd see again. The black rim ahd “hooks” of the tiny intraocular lens implant were no illusion as the deft fingers of Dr. James Gills replaced the damaged part of my original lens with a factory-made facsimile. The surgery took app 15 Dr. Gills, the‘ cataract eurgeon, is a relatively young man who runs to work each morning — 10 miles, I believe it is — in “sneakers” or tennis shoes and no socks. His green operating uniform is his only external evidence to - professional status, and he, along with what seems to be an enormous ‘and highly-qualified staff, have an evangelistic approach to their patients and to their work. Even at 7 a.m., the waiting room, was filled with BO to 100 patients, yet things were and are.so outstandingly organized’ that the average waiting time was 10 to 16 minutes. Towards the end of the morning's eye-testing, Dr. Gills introduted himself and told me he wanted ‘to operate immediately and that'a-lens implant would give the best results in my particular case. And ao the left side of my head was frozen and felt like a chunk 6f wood for the next couple of days. The anaesthetic was given an hour to’ “take”, . Twas called into the operating room and asked to ‘remove my zipper jacket. wal I donned a white paper gown and stretched out on the table with my shoes still on and my tie smartly knotted. Dr. Gills,.a brilliant pioneer in his field, worked ‘quietly and minutes, following a battery of tests that took up most of a morning that began at 7 a.m. St. Luke's Cataract and Intraocular Lens Clinic is a 20th centry “Pool of Silozm” that is making the town of New Port Richey, Florida world-famous. My good friend, Miss Rachel Saint, had highly recommended Dr. Gills to me, having had * similar surgery followed by a similar “miracle” not too long ago, and wrote me a letter of introduction to him. My own doctor who operated on the same eye — corneal transplant surgery — on November 24, also encouraged me to go. Dr. Gustavo Moreno is now doing post-operative check-ups on both my transplant and my inplant, and within three months I should be completely back to normal and ready for my permarént glasses, A young missionary bachelor friend with Vozandes Hospital, Charles Rexroad, received permission from HCJB to replace me for my eight-day absence and I was met by Tony Butler, a very fine. youth pastor from an Alliance Church ina delightful town called Dunedin. Mutual friends dall this Christian for me and I Am indeed grateful to them. At seventy-six, my host, Mr. Nussbaum, in Dunedin, is a gracious, active man of God with a youthful spirit and a big heart for everyone. His kind and hospitable wife is a true and effective partner in his ministry, and I'll always remember their kindness to me who “CAMPBELLS MUSHROOMS 2.99° Save 23¢ 284 mil tin...
