Mitchell, seen above, of Toronto, an air force pilot who undertook the longest, most gruelling and most daring of RCAF mercy flights into the. Arctic, has been awarded the Air Force Cross for bravery, fortitude and devotion to duty. In announcing the award, air force officials told how the 35- year-old World War II pilot, fight- ing northern gales, extreme fatigue and the peril of crossing uncharted Arctic areas, succeeded in bringing out a weather station official, dangerously ill from blood poison- ing. A two-minute silence at the beginning of dinner in memory of fallen comrades was observed. Grace was said by Mr. Graham. White linen cloths covered the tables and the head table was centred with: cut flowers and candles—with a corsage for each lady. Seated at the head table were: Mr. and Mrs. E. A. A report was given regarding a discussion with Bishop Johnson respecting size and initial cost of various hospitals. This was given by Dr. Goresky and M. Moran. Gordon Reith and J. A. Williams also gave a report concerning a meet- ing with the Supervisors of the Rossland Hospital. For purpose of incorporation, seven directors were elected, G. Reith, Andrew McWhinnie, M. Moran, Mrs. C. Saunders were el- ected for two years; Dr. V. Gor- esky, Claude Phillips and Mrs. R. Parkin for one year.
