Wolf of —Castlegar News Photo ‘One time mayor of Kin- naird and now Justice of the Peace, Carl Loeblich, officially opened David Thompson Stamp Club's third annual exhibition Saturday, an event that proved to be more successful than previous showings with ap- proximately 100 frames for competition and 15 to 20 exhibits as non-competitive, The exhibition hosted a number of visitors from the United States as well as from Trail, Nelson, Vernon and Kelowna. Chief judge R. Thurlow Fraser spoke of the high quality of the entries judged by himself and his panel consisting of George Melvin of Vernon, Jack Harrison of Trail, J. Pascoe Taylor of Vancouver, Michael Carter of Spokane, Gordon Haug of Kelowna and student judge Paul Wolfe of Missoula, Mont. Mr. Fraser had the honor to be named outstanding philatelist in the Pacific North- est, Mr. Melvin is the author of the book “The Post Offices of British Columbia” which is used extensively by many stamp collectors and of which copies are kept at Selkirk Colloge. A good turnout to view the exhibit benofited from the many hours put in by local, members in the preparation of the two-day show. The exhibition gave every- one an opportunity to swap stamps, with an auction held Sunday morning. Award winners were as follows: James W. Moran Vice-Chairman For Brentwood Fund Drive Brentwood College at Mill Bay on Vancouver Island has launched a $1.9 million fund drive to improve and expand school facilities and to establish a large scholarship fund for deserving students. M.E. Moran of Castlegar is vice-chairman for southeastern B.C. of the Brentwood fund drive. Chairman of the fund, J. A. Angus of Edmonton, said the schoo] offers a well-rounded academic education in Grades 8 to 12 together with a wide- ranging program of introduc- tory professiona} courses, fine arts and athletics. : He said the school hopes to have the new Bursary Fund— eventually to total $1 million— sufficiently established so that a number of students can be sent to Brentwood by the fall of 1974, The fund will pay all or part of the fees of deserving students requiring assistance. The fund also will be used on a priority basis to improve present school facilities and equipment, to construct a senior student residence, a centre of science and fine arts and a senior student centre. Brentwood offers a wide- ranging sports program and school rowing teams have made a name for themselves in Canada and overseas—most recently inthe Canada Summer Games. The school’s drama group and choirs have made many successful public appear- ances. ~ Cars Collide As Vehicle Awaits Ferry Damage was estimated at $250 to a vehicle driven by Richard Wheeler, 18, of Castle- gar after it was in collision with a vehicle driven by John Wiesner, 19, of Robson. The incident, which took place on the Robson road, was reported to local RCMP at 4:45 p.m. Monday. Police said the Wheeler vehicle was waiting to board the Castlegar ferry when it was struck in the rear. Wiesner has been charged . with following too close. No injuries were reported. Want to Sell. Carlsen, Both Drivers ‘Are Charged “Two drivers were charged following a two-car © collision reported 11:15 p.m. Monday which occurred at the Castlegar Airport turnoff in Ootischenia. . Drivers were identified as Bill Bobby Kinakin, 20, of Castlegar and Jeffery Edward Broughton, 19, of New Denver. The Kinakin vehicle is reported to have hit the rear of the Broughton vehicle. The Broughton car rolled onto its roof, - Both were charged with failing to comply with posted signs, The Broughton vehicle sustained $600 damage and the Kinakin vehicle $175.
