There are but few, if any, idle men in and around Rossland who. want work. The mines, the sewerage system, and the Trail-Robson railway have given employment to most persons who were seeking it. There never has been a time when good miners could not get work here. We are not making these statements for the purpose of inducing any kind of labor to come here but to} q, refute the statement put in circulation that there were 2,000 idle men in and around Rossland. Had the city council undertaken to make private connection with the sewer mains at the public expense, it would be justly subject to crticizm. It will cost in the aggregate as much to make the connections as put in the mains. In the first place the city 1s not able to undertake the work, and inthe second place, it would be an unjust and unequal taxation. Those who are, advocating such a policy would have been the first to find fault with it had; it_ been at- tempted. “One Who Knows” discusses the sew- ntract in today’s issue of the Rxc- orp in asensible way. It is time for those who are complaining to make specific charges or shut up. There has been nothing said or even suggested which would even point to fraud ‘or crookedness of any kind upon the part formerly owner of a half interest in the Kaslo Kootenaian, writes a letter to the Colonist here stating that he was forced to sell out because he declined to accede to the demands of Americans in Kaslo to supprees Can idian sentiment in the paper.
