Annual Celebration of the Death of Lord
Beaconsfleld. .
Loxnon, April 19.—Primrose Day,
- otherwise. known as the anniversery of
_ the death of Lord Beaconsfield, who died
* April 19,1881, ia being: generally cele-
. brated here today. About two thirds of
the people are upon the streets wearing
. primroges. Queen Victoria sent from
nive.a large wreath of primroses to be
piaced on the grave of the etatesman,
- Gm Hughendon church yard. Wreaths
from all parts of the world have been
received. Beaconsfield statue in Parli-
ament Square is very effectively decora-
_ted. The base of the pedestal is burried
in a masa of beautiful primroses,
wreaths and shields, mostly ‘inscribed.
“Peace with honor,” sent by various
conaervativeclubs and societies. The
statue iteelf stands beneath an arch of
dark gfeen cycas, surmounted by coro-
nel primrozes. Large crowde visited the
btatue during the day."

a letter from a special correspondent in
Dawion, in which high tribute is paid to
the mounted police. He claims that the
Dawaon streets are eafer at night than
