Other Notes. =Considerable comment. has been ex- cited by the article published. in the Recorp giving the names. of. t':e , mili- tary men in Roseland. Most sitsens, to say the least, were suprised’ to learn that there were so many military men here, and all of them believe that Ross- land should have a company as soon as possible. Those who were named in the list are willing to volunteer their services, and are confident that the company could be made a crack one, which would be a credit to the government. All that these experienced men désire to receive from the government are their commis- sions and accoutrements. As the appro- priation has been cut down this year they do not expect to” receive any money or allowance, which would be theirs by right, but are willing to establish their target range and pay for ammunition with money from their own pockets. Such loyalty as this, they feel sure, will not go unrewarded. The government bas everything to gain and nothing tolose. It has plenty of old arms and unitorms stacked away, which it could easily supply tothe men here without any expense to itself whatever. In all the Kootenays there is not a single military com Pany which js reason enjugh in itaelf Rossland should have acompany. Further than this, if at any time trouble should break out in the mines, the police would be utterl helpless, and before the military could be sent from a distance thousands of dollars’ worth of vajuable Bro} ert could be destroyed, even though were not shed. company nore isa sufficient guatanioe: against strikes; claim jamping, border ruffianism or .| trouble of any kind.
