By FRANK DERBY ‘Sun staff writer The Senior Men's Zone Finals were held here in Castlegar Jan.5,6 and 7 and the only local team made it to the finals before bowing out. Bill Perehudoff went through the A pool undefeated before facing Nelson’s George Beaudry for all the marbles in the B round, Having defeated Beaudry once already to get to the finals, one more win would have knocked Beaudry out but on this stormy Monday it was not to be. In the first game it looked like it would all be over early as Pere- hudoff built up a lead in the first half but Beaudry came storming back with 4 points in the sixth end. Going into the ninth the score had shifted in Beaudry’s favor 9-8. It looked likc Perehudoff might get the lead back after getting his first rock into the house, but again Beaudry came back with a perfect shot to take him out and lie 3, There was room to draw to the four foot for a single point, but Perehudoff elected to try a raised take out for two and missed, giv- ing up the 3 points and the game. . In the second game Beaudry’s rink seemed intent on building up the lead early and playing a take out game, but in the fourth end Beaudry missed both his shots giving Perehudoff’s rink 4 points and the lead. They exchanged 2 point ends in the fifth and sixth to make the score 6-5 in Perchud- off's favor but he couldn't hold it as Beaudry picked up 3 in the sev- enth end, In the ninth end down by 2, Perchudoff, his second Ron Belton, and third Lorne Trickey all tried to bury their shots behind a couple of guards on the left side of the house, but the in-tum just wasn't working for them, Beaudry ended up with a'couple of rocks just bighting the outer rings and faced with a 4 point deficit, Pere- hudoff resigned. “We knew we were up against tough competition,” said Trickey. “George is a former Dominion Senior’s Champ. It seems our most consistent curler today was our lead, Lloyd Ish.” Perehudoff seemed philosophi- cal about the losses. “In the first game my last rock was just a missed shot. That 6th end hurt us with Beaudry picking - up 4 points when my rock just didn’t curl. We just didn’t have it today, that’s all. They curled well. ‘We gambled when we were down 2 and it didn’t work out.” i Beaudry was happy to be going to the Interiors to be held in Cre- ston in February. “This will be the first since ‘74,” said Beaudry. “Our come around play was good...our weight was good. We came in planning to play the house open - get up early and keep it clean. The boys started to get sharp, a few breaks and we win.” #6 Dave Says: back. to school. Coach Ed Cooper was not available for these games so Gen- eral Manager Don Joice filled in, abley assisted by Kevin Koobatoff. “Penalties burt us in the third period,” was all Joice wanted to Say in way of comment. Against Elk Valley on Saturday things looked pretty much the same as the game was scoreless after the first period but then Elk Valley jumped out to a 4-1 lead in WILLIE'S DELI & DESSERT HOMEMADE MEAT PIES ASSORTED PARTY TRAYS “Gig 365-3306 . the second.
