By Jobn Dalziel For the second week in a row, I have to be indebted to my good friend Bob Wadey for the feature item of this column. I am referring to the return visit by the Nelson Retirees Curling Club to the local boys, From all I have heard, a good time was had by all concerned, but I will leave it to Bob for the grisly details. Here's Bob: “Well, I'm afraid the fol- lowers of John Dalziel’s column will have to put up with me for another week. The Nelson gang came over on the mdrning of March 11, but John was out of town, so couldnt cover the big event, ‘3 A very enjoyable morning of curling took place with the Castlegar hosts being forced to allow the Nelson curlers to win two of the four games played. Competition was keen and, since five-men rinks Were used, everybody had an opportunity of getting into thé fun and spirit of the occasion, After the dust had settled on the ice our good friend Helen Clay provided the boys with an excellent lunch; many Helen. A word of appreciation also to’ the ladies of the Castlegar Curling. Club, es- pecially June Grant, for their ‘donation of coffee, milk, sugar allo than break even on the deal and is certainly appreciated by all the boys. We love you, ladies! During lunch, a spokesman from Nelson thanked the local boys for their hospitality but pointed out that, since five rinks from Nelson had gone to the Kelowna Bonspiel and taken most of their top curlers, they had not been able to put. up their, usual high calibre of play and as a result had been forced to be content with a fifty-fifty split. Thad the honor of replying to this and mentioned that two, tinks from Castlegar were also absent in Kelowna and had taken our top curlers. For some reason or other this was greeted by shouts of derision from the Castlegar boys pre- sent. First ofall, for acting as chauffeur for the trip; secondly for the moral support he afforded us through- out the games; but, most of all, for the wonderful and effective way in which he kept tabs over direction went well beyond the call of duty. You did a heck of a job, Carl. : By the time you are reading this, the third round robin will be completed. Last week's results were as follows’; ‘Tuesday, March 9—Brown over Wilson, Dalziel over Brad- ford, Cushner over Woytells and Honcher. over Lyons, On Wednesday, March 11—it was Cushner over Lyons, Wadey over Verzuh, Murphy Wilson. and Woytella over LeRoy. When Dalziel beat Cecil Bradford and his boys last Tuesday, it gave hima total of 17 Pointe and put him out of reach of any other contender. Mind you, it was ‘close, since Joe Curhner has finished his games with 16 points and if Johnny Woytella wins over Perey Brown on Tosriay that will give him 16 + points The luck of the draw made it so that Dalziel still has two games_-to play, with Murphy md Verzuh, but the results of * these games can have no effect on the final standings, Of course Dalziel had to have lots of help in doing this, but he got it from Fred Giraud, Ross Oborne and good old Jim Kelly. They are a good bunch Bis and.curled their foo) heads off when it was needed. This _ the official Program of the Pensioners to a close for another season but does not mean the end of play. As of today, there will be the usual three mornings per week until the ice goes out and there is no doubt but that there will ‘of scratch games and keen competition until that time. ‘There has been some talk of games either with or against the ladies and it is almost certain that something along these lines will be worked out.
