Want a Big Debt Dear Sir: : Once again the sewerage bylaw has gone down to defeat. It should be very conceivable to the. council now, that the taxpayer does not wish to be saddled for the next 20 years buying sewerage on the in- stallment plan, We are well aware that sewer- age disposal Is the only proper sy- stem to have as regards health and sanitation, but the majority of tax- payers were not in favor of the sti- pulations of the proposed bylaw. Who taxpayer with revenue-pro- ducing properties such as. apart- ments, motels and duplex dwellings, would soon zegain their _ initial outlay in rentals, but such ‘ts not the case of the individual private property owner. Under the’ proposed bylaw, he would be expected to subsidize the commercial property owner for the next ‘20 years, Furthermore, this would impose an added burden on ‘the already limited finances of the pensioners (old or otherwise). ‘What guarantee has the tax- payer got that there will not bo other frontage tax levies from time to time! There is too much unfairness ‘between the private individual pro. perty owner, and the revenue-pro- ducing property owner. If the pri- vate individual is expected to pay on the basis of one flush connected to the sewer, then the revenue-pro- ducing ' owner ‘should, be expected to pay on a pro-rata basis for the number of flushes in ube. Under : the ‘proposed. sewerage bylaw, it. would cost the taxpayer approximately $1,000 to $1,200, We already have a long term water debt to face, as well a3 in- creased achool and hospital tax fa- cing us. Is it any wonder the taxpayer has voted down an additional 20- year millstone around his neck. Ta- xes are necessary, but there isa limit as to how. much the taxpayer can stand. Does it actually pay to be @ property owner?
